Reconciliation Week
Week 5 of Term 2 marks National Reconciliation Week, a significant time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving true reconciliation in our community.
On Monday 26 May – National Sorry Day – students in Foundation to Stage 3, and staff, are invited to wear purple or their school uniform. Wearing purple honours the Native Hibiscus Flower, symbolising the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors. This flower's ability to thrive in harsh conditions makes purple a symbol of compassion and healing in this context. Please note, there is no fundraising component connected to wearing purple.
Throughout Reconciliation Week, our classes will be engaging in a range of activities that encourage understanding, reflection, and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Hands-on learning and experiences throughout the week at our school and ELC will include:
- Kaurna numeracy through playdough
- Music and movement
- Aboriginal art
- Astronomy
- Literacy activities including Dreaming stories
- Small world sensory play
We look forward to this important week of learning and reflection as we move forward together toward reconciliation.

Caring Conversations
When we find out about something positive, something we have benefited from, we often have an impulse to share it with others... (Influencers do this all the time!) When it comes to talking about Jesus, it can be tricky... I wonder why? Here are some ‘Caring Conversations’ to share with your family when you have a few minutes!
Volunteer Training
We have many volunteer opportunities within our school for those interested in contributing to our vibrant community at Good Shepherd Lutheran School Para Vista, and your involvement is crucial in creating a nurturing environment for our students.
Our next Volunteer Training session is:
- Tuesday 20th May @ 3.15pm
- Thursday 22nd May @ 8.45am
There has been an update to the training and any new volunteers from July 2024 onwards will now need to complete the RRHAN-EC online course.
