News from the Chicken Coop
A Huge Thank you!
Thanks to the wonderful Kerwin and McKay families for taking such great care of our school chickens the last few weekends. We hope you got lots of eggs and baked lots of delicious goodies with them, yum!
URGENT! Volunteers Needed - All weekends from 17/5/25 during Term 2 are Available
Each weekend and over the school holidays, school families volunteer to go on the chicken duty roster to look after our school chickens. You only need to pop up to visit the chickens once a day to check their water and food. It’s really easy and the kids love it! Duty families get to keep all the yummy eggs they collect over the weekend. An information sheet will be provided with all the details prior to your duty.
If you would like to put your name on the roster please email Mel asap at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au with your preferred dates. First in, first choice of dates!
Egg Lotto -$2 per ticket
For your chance to win 1 dozen eggs just buy an egg lotto ticket. Tickets are only $2 each! The next Egg Lotto draw will be Monday 12th May.
We usually sell tickets in front of the school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:10-3:20pm, selling tickets to students, parents, grandparents and carers. If not, tickets are available to buy at any time, just bring your money into school and the Environment Leaders will help you out.
All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for our chickens. There will be a few dozen eggs available to win so get your winning $2 raffle ticket soon!
We also sell our worm juice which is a wonderful fertiliser for your garden. It is collected fresh from our worm farms here at school! Buy a bottle for only $2 this week.
Did you Know?…
Eggs are so nutritious that they’re often referred to as “nature’s multivitamin.” The yolk is where you will get the most nutrients from the egg; iron, vitamin A, vitamin D, phosphorus, calcium, thiamine and riboflavin while the egg white contains protein. No wonder they say that eggs are one of the healthiest foods on the planet!
Thanks for your support!
