Hospitality in Action at

St. Joseph's College

Foundation Day was a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of the Brigidine Sisters and our ongoing commitment to their values of hospitality, justice and compassion. The student-led liturgy offered a meaningful moment of reflection and celebration, honouring our rich history while embracing the evolving identity of St Joseph’s College as one community across two campuses. With student voices at its heart, the liturgy beautifully embodied the spirit of welcome that defines our College, reinforcing a deep sense of belonging and connection.

In the spirit of celebration and unity, we also marked International Women’s Day. We were privileged to welcome Dalal from Wellsprings for Women, whose inspiring story and work left a lasting impact on our community. Her message of empowerment and service resonated strongly with our students, linking perfectly with their Foundation Day Mini Market initiative, where students actively raised funds for causes aligned with our Brigidine values of compassion and justice.

The value of hospitality continued to shine through our House Masses, where students and staff gathered in faith, reflection and community spirit. These special moments not only nurtured our sense of belonging within house groups but also deepened our connection with the broader St Mary’s Parish community.

In the classroom, Religious Education at St Joseph’s College continues to enliven the Living Justice, Living Peace Charter, offering students meaningful opportunities for dialogue, reflection and action. This term, our Year 8 students explored diverse examples of service, grounded in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. Their learning journey was deeply enriched by the liturgical season of Lent, helping them connect their faith to tangible acts of justice and kindness.

Meanwhile, our Year 10 students engaged in a rich exploration of prayer in its many forms. Linking their studies to the pillars of Lent, they experienced prayer through contemporary music, Indigenous spirituality, traditional liturgical prayers and Christian meditation. These experiences fostered a holistic understanding of prayer’s place in both personal and communal faith life, encouraging students to see spirituality as an integral part of daily living. Through deep discussions, students reflected on how their faith calls them to be agents of justice, peace and compassion in the world.

At St Joseph’s, we continue to honour the Brigidine tradition by weaving faith, service and hospitality into the fabric of daily life, ensuring our community remains a place where all are welcomed, nurtured and empowered.
