It was another sunny and warm day last Friday for ANZAC Day and it seemed like a much bigger crowd this year for the ceremony. As always, involving today’s youth is an important factor for the RSL to ensure that history is not repeated.
Our school captains seem to find something different to say about the same topic each year, and this year was no different.
Nat and Zoe spoke well, deliberately choosing to speak about what ANZAC Day means to them. Nat spoke about the freedoms that were fought for, the sacrifices made, lives lost and damaged, and how our world today has been shaped by numerous wars and conflicts. She talked about the importance of remembering the past and being grateful for the world that was created through sacrifice, a world we often take for granted.
Zoe provided an insight into the life of being an ANZAC soldier, through the summary of diaries which were written by a relative; he somehow managed to maintain this record every single day of his time away from home. When listening to some of the horrendous circumstances written from a firsthand perspective, it is hard to imagine the courage and bravery they would have needed to keep going every day.
Well done to the captains for their thought provoking words and for representing the school in such an insightful way.
House Athletics Sports Day is always a fun day and the weather managed to turn it on to help students perform their best and staff to not wilt or freeze while on measuring or timing duties – not too hot, not too cold; just right!
Although there were fewer students present than in previous years, the ones that were there made up for it in house spirit, energy and enthusiasm for those that weren’t.
Thanks to the family members that came to watch and support their children, for the students who participated, for the staff that worked to manage the events throughout the day, and to Jenny Farrington for all her efforts, in setting up a day that ran smoothly.
While progress on this project seems slow, in reality, the progress for such a large undertaking, managed by the VSBA is on track and progressing as planned. From launch, in December 2024, this project has always been estimated to have the construction completed in 15 months with the full project complete in 2 years.
At this stage, there will be a meeting early next week with the Project Design Consultant to discuss the schematic design provided to us. We are all waiting with baited breath to see what might be in store for our school!
Please see the Project Update dashboard, below, to gain an idea of the progress to this point.
