Tomorrow morning, Junior School students will meet on the hockey field at Senior Campus for our annual walk to school. ELC 4 parents who wish to walk with their children are welcome to join us. The ELC staff will be at the Centre and will start their normal program at 9.00 am. This year, we will also include the option for Junior School students and parents to ride to school. We will depart the Senior Campus just after 9.00 am. Staff will be on duty from 8.45 am. Children who catch buses will get off at Senior Campus and make their way via the crossing to the hockey field. Students who travel to school by car can be dropped off in Macpherson Street or College Street. There will be a Junior School staff member on duty at Junior School for any students in Before School Care.
Next Monday 3 May, all Junior School students are required to be in full winter College uniform. This includes blazers, tie and grey trousers for the boys and winter pinafores or kilts, tie and blazers for the girls. It is important we wear our uniform well, and with pride.
Congratulations to all our students who ran in the House Cross Country on Wednesday morning. Mrs Louise Patterson did her usual excellent job of coordinating the event. It was lovely having the Senior Campus students cheer on our runners prior to their races.
Our House Champion for 2025 were Berry House, with Laidlaw second place, Learmonth third and Young in forth.
Age Champions for this year.
In a few short weeks, our Year 6 class will head north to the nation’s capital for a week exploring aspects of democracy and our parliamentary and electoral systems. They will also access many exciting co-curricular activities including Questacon, National Arboretum and the Institute of Sport. The focus is the Civic and Citizenship component of the Year 6 Inquiry Curriculum. Each year, prior to the trip, we invite a guest speaker to visit the Year 6 class for a Q and A. In past years, we have had local shire mayors and state and federal politicians from the Labor, Liberal and the National Parties, with a view of offering a balance of opinions from across our broad political spectrum. This year, I invited Independent Mr. Alex Dyson. He spoke to the Year 6 students about his reasons and motivations to run for the seat of Wannon, his childhood in Warrnambool, and his life experiences. He traces his interest in perusing things outside his comfort zone back to Year 6 at Warrnambool Primary School, where he took a ‘leap of faith’ and auditioned for the school musical. This resonated with our students, as many shared this experience when deciding to audition for ‘Frozen’ in 2024. Mr Dyson also spoke of his Year 3 teacher and how a particular unit of study sparked an interest in world affairs. On departure, he praised our students for their questions, and was particularly taken with a question from Scarlett Hawker -‘How do you stay positive when people don’t agree with you?’
The 2025 Hockey season commences for our juniors on Saturday with the following fixtures.
Under 10s - College Falcons v Demons Red - 1.00 pm at Pedrina Park
Under 13s - College Eagles v Coleraine Maroon - 2.00 pm at Neil MacLean Field (College)
- College Hawks v Demons - 3.30 pm at Pedrina Park
Best of luck to all teams.
