Principal's Address

Hello to all Moonie Families and Community,

Week 2

Welcome Back!

Hoping everyone has had a restful and rejuvenating break, enjoying time with family and friends. We have a busy Term 2, especially the first half.

Attendance

Fun Facts – In our P-2 classroom attendance rate on a Tuesday is 99.3%! Tuesday is also the best attended day in the 3-6 classroom.

- The attendance rate for Term 1 in the 3-6 classroom was higher than P-2. The difference was only 1.6%, can the P-2 classroom turn that around.

- Congratulations to the four students who did not miss a day in Term 1, two in P-2 and two in 3-6 – can you guess who!

Congratulations to everyone for coming to school on time and ready to learn. However, if you are unwell, it is best to stay home and rest. If your child is away for any reason, please contact the school through QParents to inform us of the absence.

3-6 Curriculum

English – Information Reports, exploring the purpose, audience and characteristic features of these texts including how images support the meaning of the text. This will be culminating is students creating their own informative texts on a chosen topic.

Science – This unit will be integrated with English as Year 3 and Year 4 students learn about grouping living things based on observable features and distinguishing living things from non-living things. While Year 6 students will design two creatures that are adapted to survive in two different environments.

Math – Term 2 focus will be to continue to build on our number sense skills. Quick recall of multiplication as well as building on our addition and subtraction strategies. We have also started the term off with a short unit on Time and we will be assessed during Week 4.

Cross-Country

Congratulations to everyone’s participation during Cross Country. Well done to all of our age group champions as well as Charlotte H for breaking her age group record.

Good luck to everyone for Thursday! We will be attending the Gums State School to participate in the Small Schools Cross Country. Students are to wear their Moonie State School Sports uniform and meet at the Gums Sports Club by 8:30am.

ANZAC Day Service

Thank you to you everyone for your participation in the ANZAC Day service at Moonie State School. The connection I hold to ANZAC Day is significant. The respect our students demonstrate towards continuing on the legacy of remembering and honouring all that have served is something to be proud of.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews are coming up in Week 4, if you are yet to book a time, please email Jodie to book a time. Jodie will then coordinate times and notify you.

Stradbroke Island Meeting

For all Year 3 and 4 parents, a Stradbroke Island Meeting will take place to discuss itinerary and costing. This meeting will take place in the Year 3-6 classroom at 2:45 on Monday 12th May.

Regards,

Anna Jones
