Year Three/Four News

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning many new things in Year 3 /4.
In Reading, we were learning and improving on making connections. Our main focus was on ‘text to self’ and we also learnt a different way of doing a Reading Response.
Last week in Writing, we were learning about writing narratives based on genres. The genres we could choose from were fantasy, horror, sci-fi, adventure, mystery or action.
We were learning about data and graphs in Maths. We collected data on what new facilities the Miners Rest community would benefit from. We put our own ideas down for choices and then surveyed other students to collect the data to be put into a graph.
In Humanities, we have learnt about the local government, rules and why they are important. We discovered that rules are important because they keep us safe. We also learnt that they need to be fair and that everyone can make a rule.
While the Year 3’s were on camp, we worked on a really fun activity for Mother’s Day. We glued pieces of coloured paper on a heart/star in any pattern or way we’d like. Once you had finished that we cut it out and glued it onto a larger heart/star shape. We could then write some cute messages to our mum on it. Lastly, we put our finished heart/star onto an A4 piece of paper, folded it into a card and then it was ready to give to our mum!

Year 3 Camp!
On Wednesday 7th May, the Year 3’s went to camp. Our destination was Cave Hill Creek, which is in bushland near Beaufort.
There were some very excited kids on the 45-minute bus ride there!
When we first arrived, we had to set up our cabins, which included choosing what bunk bed we wanted to sleep in and making it up with our sleeping bags and pillows.
We sat and ate our snack while we listened to the camp instructor tell us what the expectations of our stay were.
Over the three days we stayed on camp, we had a timetable of activities that we did. The activities were biking, bush hiking, canoeing, bush cooking, low ropes, map reading, hut building and the adventure race.
Biking was very popular because it was so much fun riding the mountain bikes through the bush. We were challenged by riding a bigger bike than we usually do!
We were excited to go canoeing even though the weather was cold. The rescue duck game was funny, we had to try to get ducks from other canoes and from the water. We laughed a lot.
Our first night we played Minute To Win It Trivia, and some other hilarious games and watched a movie called Daddy Daycare on our last night at camp.
The camp food was delicious! We recommend the lasagne! The camp cooks were amazing at cooking our meals and keeping our energy up, we were very busy!
On Friday (our last day at camp) there were mixed emotions, we were sad that we had to go home but also happy to see our families! I think everyone was very tired, a few of us fell asleep on the bus ride home!
The Cave Hill Creek Camp is a truly BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING place to stay!
