From the Assistant Principal

Strong family partnerships make a difference

"…positive family engagement can and does significantly influence student academic attainment" (Emerson, et al, 2012, p.8).

The benefits of Family School Partnerships for students include:

  • gains in student achievement
  • higher levels of student participation
  • higher rates of graduation from school
  • greater sense of personal competence and efficacy for learning
  • greater engagement in learning and school life
  • better adaptive behavior to challenging situations by students
  • increased social capital by the school community
  • a strong belief in education.

We really encourage you to seize all opportunities that arise. Our staff and students highly value our volunteers, they help us in so many ways;

-Support during Literacy programs

-P-2 parents/carers Artroom assistance

-Interschool Sports

-Special Lunch Days

-Excursions

-Special Event Days

-Fathers of the Oak

-Partnerships Committee

-Working Bees

-Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program (SAKG)  program is offered to Grades 3 and 4 students. The program relies on adult support to run small groups, unfortunately  we often find the classes run short of support which changes the experience of the program. We would love to hear from you regardless or whether you have a child in Grades 3 or 4 or not. If you can't help, perhaps a Grandparents, Aunty's and Uncles might be able to come to support this wonderful opportunity that our students have.

The Cyber Safety Project

The Cyber Safety Project’s mission is to provide a whole community approach focused on developing future skills, lifelong habits and self-regulation when innovating and using digital technologies for work, life and play. To create safer communities our educational programs and proactive teaching strategies will engage the whole community with learning how to participate safety and responsibly in a digitally-engaged world.

We are continue to partner with the Cyber Safety Project, they will be visiting us on Monday 18th March and will be working with both students and teachers.

Child Safety Standards

Volunteers

We are mandated (without exemption) to provide training for all volunteers working in our school. It's a requirement that our staff and volunteers are equipped with knowledge, skills and awareness to keep young people safe through ongoing education and training. Training is required to be updated annually.

All volunteers working in all school will need to have completed annual training prior to working with students at our school. We have already trained/updated over 150 volunteers this year. I really enjoy having the opportunity to meet with members of our community in this way, it's a wonderful way to build a shared understanding of Child Safety.

There is one remaining session for Term 1. If you are considering volunteering at Cross Country I encourage you to join this online session. There most likely will not be another training opportunity before Cross Country.
