Visual Arts

The art room furniture has arrived! Feel free to pop in to see the changes that have been made over the last few months and to view some of the student's artwork on display.

Prep

Students have completed the first of their seasonal calendar pages that will be collated and presented to families at the end of the year. Here is their Summer picture with plasticine sunbakers on towels, with knotted tassles on each end.

Grade 1/2

The Artroom window is full of the Grade 1/2s student's favourite local place to visit. Made with plasticine on a cardboard base, this task really gave their hands a work out!

Grade 3/4

These students have worked so hard to create amazing watercolour images on their silos, linked to our CBL topic of Community, their design had to be something iconic or indigenous to Australia.

Grade 5

Students have now finished their patterns and colours work on their traced face. The next step is to tear it to pieces and attach it to their original photo!

Grade 6

Students have been learning about felting and binding fibres together using a felting needle. Here are the beginning stages of their Australian landscape design.

Performing Arts

IN THE CLASSROOM

The Performing Arts room continues to be full of activity! Highlights of the last few weeks have included;

Prep: Students becoming more confident in describing music and sounds using words and movements. They've also jumped into learning some First Nations music.

Grade 1 & 2: Students performing Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in Woiwurrung language at the special Reconciliation Action Plan assembly. Our guests found the performance so heartwarming and were impressed by the students.

Grade 3 & 4: Students creating characters from a book and then devising short scenes involving the characters. There has been some excellent team work and characterisation on display!

Grade 5 & 6: The creation of students' self-devised physical theatre pieces inspired by the idea of 'community'. It has been a delight to watch the students work together so eagerly and use their ideas to shape a performance that they have created from scratch.

SENIOR CHOIR HAS BEGUN

We held our first choir rehearsal during Week 7 and were overwhelmed with the big turnout! 38 students across Grade 3-6 attended to our sign up and information session. We had the chance to sing one warmup song together;  'The Fruit Cannon'.

If your child is interested in participating and missed the first rehearsal please ask them to contact Tim and to keep an eye out for our next rehearsal.

We have our first gig for the year booked in! We will be performing at Warrandyte Festival on April 20 at 12. More info to come.

SHINE BRIGHT - PERFORMING ARTS CLUB

The Grade 6 Performing Arts Captains have started their 'Shine Bright' club this term for Grade 5 and 6 students. There was an excellent turn out of students who were expertly led through games and activities in dance, music and drama. Well done to Ariella, Maple, Rheya and Harper for their excellent leadership in organising and running this club.

The club runs at lunchtime on Wednesday in the Performing Arts room.
