There are some exciting art opportunities coming up that we thought our talented Solway students might be interested in.

Young Archie Competition

The Art Gallery of New South Wales invites budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18, to submit a portrait for the Young Archie competition. The portrait must be of a person who is special to you – someone who is known to you, and who knows you, and plays a significant role in your life. Entries must be received by 17 March. Ken Done ‘Fantastical sharks and Rays' Competition

Create an artistic masterpiece based just on the description of one of 10 uniquely Australian sharks or rays and it could end up in the Australian Museum! The most imaginative pieces will become the inspiration for 10 of Australia’s most prominent artists, including Ken, to create their own artwork. Competition closes 29 February. Paralympics Australia - Village Art

For the Australian Paralympic Team, the Athletes’ Village is a home away from home while they are competing. To make them feel welcome and to remind them of the support back home, we are looking for students to produce some art for display in the Village. Entries close 12 July.

Interested students are welcome to join us at Art Club on Thursday lunchtimes to work on one of these designs or complete their masterpiece at home.

Thanks again to those who have donated old newspapers to the Art Room. We are always incredibly grateful to receive these and really enjoy recycling them into creative paper mache projects. Keep them coming!
