Hello 5/6 families,
Time is flying, and we can't believe we're already wrapping up Week 6! The past two weeks in Year 5/6 at SPS have been filled with exciting learning and activities.
In Week 5, we had a blast at Knox Leisureworks, where our students not only had fun in the pool but also learned important water safety skills. Then, in Week 6, we collaborated to transform tyres into lovely planters, adding a touch of beauty to our surroundings. There's always something engaging happening at SPS!
A big shout-out to all the families who joined us for Parent-Teacher Interviews this week. Your involvement and support mean a lot to us.
Looking forward, we have an eventful fortnight ahead. Monday brings the Labor Day Public Holiday, offering everyone a well-deserved break. Tuesday is our Curriculum Day, allowing SPS staff to focus on professional development and, on Wednesday, our Year 5s kick off their NAPLAN testing.
Wishing everyone a fantastic fortnight ahead!

Hats
All students must wear a school hat in Term 1. If your child has lost their hat, please check the lost property space or arrange a replacement through the office.
Sustainable Lunches
Our Sustainability Team conducted our waste and litter audit last week and were happy to see that 14kg worth of fruit scraps were going into our compost bins each week. However, we’d like to start bringing down our numbers for wrappers. We would love to see our peers using multi-purpose containers in their lunchboxes and reducing the amount of wrappers we bring to school!
Homework
The 5/6 cohort continues our fortnightly homework tasks and it’s been nice to see students push themselves to complete extra tasks! Remember to also read for 20 minutes, 5 nights every week and fill in your diaries to be checked every Friday.
AFL Auskick Program
The AFL Auskick Program is about to begin, so if your child is interested in joining, just head over to the office to sign up!
We finally have an update from PSW about the Year 6 jumpers. We are hoping that they will be delivered in the next 2 weeks!
We apologise for the delay, however PSW has said that they have had a large number of orders to process and have been very busy. As soon as the jumpers arrive, they will be distributed to students.
Our annual Year 6-7 Transition Information Night is being held on Tuesday 19th March at 5.30pm in the 5/6 Collaborative Space. All Year 5/6 families are welcome. We have Gail Major, Principal of Scoresby Secondary College, as our special guest who will share insightful information about secondary school. We will also be discussing school zones, the application process and timeline, and how you can prepare your child for secondary school.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP via the office on 9763 7484 or via email at scoresby.ps@education.vic.gov.au
The recently-concluded Swimming Program proved to be a fulfilling and enriching experience for all participants. Students engaged in various activities aimed at improving their swimming abilities and water safety knowledge. Through assessments and dedicated practice sessions, they not only refined their existing skills but also acquired new techniques. Overall, the program fostered a sense of achievement and confidence among the students, equipping them with valuable life-saving abilities and enhancing their overall well-being.
During Week 6, all classes participated in a tyre painting activity for the new tyre garden. It was a lot of fun seeing lots of different and cool designs for the new tyre garden. It was really fun working with groups and painting with friends. The newly-painted tyres are going to be used in the garden being developed near the car park. We are going to be planting these in Term 2.
