Upcoming Important Dates

From The Team

The Year 3/4 students have continued their wonderful Term 1 with another busy fortnight.  In this past fortnight we have completed Parent-Teacher Interviews, Twilight Sports and painting of tyres for the new garden beds.  Year 3/4 have also been hard at work on reinforcing our learning with Rainbow Maths, and learning codes in the Write to Read program.

It has also been extremely pleasing to see how well students are reading at school, especially the many children that have reached the ‘25’ nights reading milestone over recent weeks. The support and care from our families is very much appreciated by all, particularly the children.

With NAPLAN, our Year 3 students will be sitting this national assessment with sitting dates beginning on March 13th and concluding on March 18th; we wish them all the best!

The testing dates for Year 3 are outlined below:

  • Wednesday 15th March: Writing
  • Thursday 16th March: Reading
  • Friday 17th March: Conventions of Language (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation)
  • Monday 20th March: Numeracy

Year 3/4 will also be looking forward to another eventful fortnight with upcoming events including NAPLAN, Harmony Week (with Harmony Week Free Dress Day), a Wildlife Xposure Science Incursion, and Wellbeing Week.

We are looking forward to continuing our learning over the next fortnight and if you have any questions or comments, please send a message to your child’s teacher(s) and they will get back to you as soon as possible.

What We Are Learning

Reminders

  • Reading logs are due each Friday
  • Homework books are due alternate Fridays; the next date will be Friday 15th March
  • Breakfast Club is now on a Friday from 8.15am
  • Running Club is Thursdays at 8.30am on the school oval

Try This...

Tip for helping with reading - allow your child to read silently to themselves (this takes away the pressure of reading aloud!) then ask them to retell the key information or parts from the story they have just read.

You could ask more specific questions to help build comprehension (understanding) including questions such as:

  • Why did the character do that?
  • How are they feeling?
  • How do you know?
  • What happens at the beginning, middle and end?

Or questions relating to forming connections such as:

  • What does this story remind you of?
  • Can you relate to the characters in the story?
  • Does anything in this story remind you of anything in your own life?

Tyre Painting

This week, each grade took some time to work in teams to paint tyres in preparation for the creation of our Student Tyre Garden in front of our school.

Write To Read

As part of our morning Rigour Sessions, all Year 3/4 grades come together to work on our sound and letter codes in the Write To Read program.
