Foundation/Grade 1

We really enjoyed celebrating Wellness Week last week! It was great to wear a colour that made us feel well, some of us enjoyed tasting new things with Lorraine on Tuesday and we pushed through the challenge of making a chatterbox.

We LOVED having Sully in the room on Wednesday last week and Monday this week. Both Sully and lots of us enjoyed doing mindfulness together and going to the Library.

Grade 2

🫶 Wellness Week 🫶The Year’s 2 thoroughly enjoyed participating in the different activities Lorraine and Mrs Carmichael planned for us. We loved making the kindness chatterboxes and the alphabet letters in class using our bodies. We also appreciated trying new foods on Taste it Tuesday. Thank you to those family members 🥰 that came into our classroom to join in with our chatterboxes.

MIDDLE UNIT

Inquiring minds in the middle unit.

We are spending time working together in small groups investigating our history of Australia: the history of the earth, rock art created by the First peoples of Australia, ways to represent the passage of time. As a result of the inquiry we'll be able to understand the history of the earth, the cultures of the first people of Australia and the use of technologies and skills to represent the passage of time.

During the past 2 weeks we have explored images and made connections to the images we have viewed that have provided an insight into our history.

Here are some images we have viewed and some responses from the students. Bush cooking- using technology in a simply way, sharing stories about families before us- different era’s, lighting fires and how the earth provides for us, no light bulbs so they had to try a natural technology, different money to buy things, photos had no colour, no technology to ask for help, no technology with cutting wood, teaching with only words, creating paint colours using the earth as our pallet.

SENIOR UNIT

Inquiry

Students have been putting the finishing touches on their inquiry assignments and sharing their presentations with the class. They have found the investigation into the law enforcement authorities to be super engaging. The students also completed their first rotation of our community connections unit. The students will work through each of the rotations over the coming weeks.

NAPLAN

Our Grade 5 students have been working hard preparing for NAPLAN. During these practise sessions, the grade 6 students have been completing an information report on an animal of their choice. The students have chosen some interesting animals to investigate. I can’t wait to learn about each of them!

NAPLAN information for parents

Staff are supporting children to prepare for the digital platform that is used for the NAPLAN tests. If your child comes home, concerned or worried please don't hesitate to talk to your child's teacher.

Maths

In Maths we have been revisiting the number operations. This week, our focus has moved from subtraction to multiplication. In Miss Eade’s class we have found a new fun way to warm up and practise our times tables.

Courage and Crowns

On Wednesday the year 5 and 6 girls had their first session of Courage and Crowns. The day included a day session with the students followed by a mother and daughter session in the evening. The program is all about teaching females about self love and self worth.

Literacy

Our next focus for writing is looking at persuasive text, using the Jocelyn Seamer as our platform. Students have been creating strong arguments for a chosen topic and will move onto writing strong arguments and using correct structure for this genre of writing.
