Primary News

Melanie Sluyters

Last Tuesday evening it was fabulous to witness the amazing turn out of parents/guardians to our ‘Primary Connections Evening’.  The time spent in the classroom allowed parents and teachers to meet, some for the first time, as well as make connections and friendships with those families within the same cohort.

As parents/guardians the bond that you build with each other is foundational for creating a thriving educational community within our College. It enhances communication, parental involvement, support systems, positive school culture, and ultimately contributes to the overall success and well-being of your daughters.

This in turn also goes for the relationships established between your daughter’s teacher and  you as the parent/guardian. It is clearly evidenced that strong connections play a crucial role in a child's educational and personal development and contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment. These can be seen through many and varied ways such as emotional wellbeing, a better understanding of the student, support of initiatives and ideas and informed participation.

It is important that we keep in mind that a positive collaboration between your daughter’s teacher/s and you will only but be a positive contribution to the journey that you are on with the College.

‘Teachers and parents are part of the journey.  They have the ability to light fires, help children to succeed, and to even change the world’.

NAPLAN

Over the next two weeks, our Years 3 and 5 students will participate in NAPLAN testing.  As we approach the NAPLAN testing period, it is essential to remember that standardised assessments are just one aspect of what we do at Mount Carmel and how we educate our students.  Whilst we acknowledge the value of NAPLAN in providing valuable insights into student performance, we remain committed to fostering a well-rounded learning environment that prepares students for success not only in exams but also in their future endeavours.

Parents are asked to avoid outside appointments and other interruptions on the dates of the Practice Tests and the actual running of NAPLAN.  If there is an issue here I urge you to connect your daughter’s classroom teacher as soon as possible.
