Prep
Maths
The Preps are learning the days of the week. Using The Very Hungry Caterpillar story as a model, they sequenced the days of the week and what the caterpillar ate each day.
Each day in Maths, the students count and engage in games that support and strengthen their numeracy skills, such as numeral recognition, the correct number name, and one-to-one correspondence. The Preps use their 'Superhero' eyes to see a number within a collection of dots, fingers, counters or objects without counting. We call this subitising.
Literacy
This week, the Preps were introduced to Maggie Mouse. She makes the beginning sound /m/ in words such as mouse, monkey, muffin, munch and moon.
Inquiry
This week, the Prep students shared photos and artefacts with their class community in Inquiry. I am immensely proud of all the students who presented their information. They demonstrated bravery, resilience, and success. The students or audience practised respectful listening while their peers presented. These are all valuable skills to learn and practise.
We have also been learning about the organisations and heroes in our local community, such as nurses, vets, firefighters, the library, and paramedics, and their roles in the community. The local fire brigade visited the students and shared information about the role of the fire brigade and firefighters. Then, the Preps visited the Frankston Library and learned about the activities at the library and how the library works.
