STEM

This fortnight in STEM

I love giving 25 students the exact same design brief, and seeing 25 completely different results at the end of a lesson. Everyone has something to contribute in the STEM lab. No ideas are ridiculous if you can get them to work. Even if they fail to meet the brief, learning and exploration are still possible.

"Failure is success in progress." Albert Einstein.

Over the past two weeks we have been building houses, cars, gardens and boats for our minifigures. We have helped the Gingerbread Man get across the river safely. We have provided transport for Cinderella to attend the Ball when her mice ate the pumpkin for the carriage. And we've been testing our skills at writing programs for the Sphero Bolt to draw shapes on the ground.

Can you work out what shapes have been program below? Most of the 5/6's are learning in block programming (the first picture) but some have tried their hand at Javascript (the second picture) and are picking it up really well.

School Holiday Programs

If your child is a future engineer and you’re looking for something for them to do in the school holidays, then you might like to enrol them in one of the junior engineers school holiday programs.
