What a great start to term 1 for Sport, and we are only half way through!
A big day of swimming was held on the 19th February at the Doncaster Aquarena, as 29 of DPS's best swimmers from Grades 3-6 represented us in the Doncaster District Swimming Carnival.
We had a successful day with three students progressing to the next round, which is the Divisional Carnival. Congratulations to...
Eleanor M - U12 Girls Freestyle and Butterfly
Abby V - Under 11 Girls Backstroke
Jonti V - Under 11 Girls Freestyle
An amazing achievement. We had a number of other students who finished with ribbons and as a school we finished in 5th position (one point behind 4th!)
All students represented the school fantastically and showed great sportsmanship throughout.
Year 5/6 students have been lucky to have coaches from Football Australia visit to run sessions in PE, and our 3/4 students have just begun looking at Softball with visiting coaches from Softball Victoria running some sessions. What a wonderful experience to learn from experts in their field of sport.
Our junior students are continuing to expand on their fundamental movement skills in PE and are displaying some amazing skills in the process. We've also been working on our hand-eye coordination and object control skills.
Physical literacy is when kids have developed the skills, confidence, and love of movement to be physically active for life. In discussions of physical literacy, you’ll often hear talk of “fundamental movement skills.”
Fundamental movement skills (FMS) are the basic movements traditionally associated with human physical activity. The most common FMS include skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, skipping, and hopping. (activeforlife.com)
