EDSC Reading Challenge Mid-Point Prize Winners
Congratulations to the lucky winners of our EDSC Reading Challenge Mid-Point Prize Draw!
The following students, who were entered into the draw after reading seven books by the Reading Challenge mid-point deadline, are our winners:
- Amanda - 9H
- Ivana - 7R
- Benita - 7D
- Zeph - 7C
- Jade - 7R
These students each got to choose a book and bookmark or badge from our library prize box. We look forward to giving out more prizes to EDSC's reading community between now and the end of the year.
The EDSC Reading Challenge is part of the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge, with added prizes. It runs each year and all EDSC students and staff can take part. All the books read from January 1 until September 1 should be added into the Reading Challenge Google Form. Students can read ANY books they like (excluding early childhood picture books). Students can read graphic novels, manga, English class novels, books in another language, poetry, non-fiction, eBooks, audiobooks, and more!
There are plenty of prizes on offer throughout the year and any student who reads and verifies 15 books will be invited to our end of year pizza party and receive a certificate and EDSC house points.
All details are on our Reading Challenge webpage.
Holiday Reading with Sora
The EDSC library is closed over the school holidays, but students don’t need to fear as Sora is here.
Sora is EDSC’s digital reading app and it’s full of new and classic fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and manga that can be borrowed 24/7 on any device. Sora offers an excellent range of eBooks and audio books hand-picked for Australian secondary students.
Students have the option of downloading the Sora app to a tablet or smartphone or accessing the Sora website on a laptop. Simply search for East Doncaster Secondary College and log in.
Head to the eBook page of the library website for some Sora Tips and Tricks to take full advantage of all that Sora has to offer.
Students should make sure to enter any eBooks and audiobooks they read during the holidays into the EDSC Reading Challenge.
EDSC Bookmark Competition now open
Our annual EDSC Library Bookmark Design Competition is now open! Entries close on Wednesday August 6.
This year students’ designs must respond to the Book Week theme ‘Book an Adventure’. Students and staff will vote for their favourite bookmark, and the winning design will be professionally printed and provided free to students in the library. The winner will also receive a $20 prize voucher.
Designs should be emailed to 7773-library@schools.vic.edu.au by Wednesday August 6.
Each student can enter one handmade or digital design following these rules:
- Your bookmark must be sized 206mm x 56mm.
- Your background should go right to the edges. Any text or important graphics need 3mm of ‘bleed’ space at the edge (they should fit inside the size 200mm x 50mm).
- We recommend not including a border in your design as this can be affected when printing.
- Digital designs should be 300dpi. You can use these digital templates for guidance if you like (scroll down to 'Bookmarks' and select templates from the first row).
- Handmade designs can be photographed or scanned and emailed, and if they win, we will organise a high-quality scan of the artwork for printing.
- Designs must be your own work (and not AI generated).
- Designs must be one sided only. You may sign your name on the design if you like.
- Designs must include ‘EDSC Reads 2025’ somewhere.
Designs must respond to the theme ‘Book an Adventure’. These words do not need to appear in your design, and you can interpret this broad
theme however you wish.
Book Week is coming in August
Book Week is almost here! EDSC Library will be unveiling our plans for Book Week 2025 early in Term 3.
To start with, we’d love to reveal our new EDSC Library Book Week Poetry Competition.
This year, students are invited to submit poems that respond to the theme "Book an Adventure!" What does adventure mean to you? Is it a journey into the unknown, a leap of faith, or a quest for discovery? Let your imagination soar!
The winning poem will be selected by popular vote, featured prominently in the library, and the poet will receive a $20 prize voucher. All entries must be emailed to 7773-library@schools.vic.edu.au by Wednesday August 6.
Submission Guidelines:
- Poems must be your original work (and not use AI)
- Poems can be up to 30 lines
- All entries must be connected to the theme "Book an Adventure!" You can interpret this theme however you wish
- You can enter up to three poems
- Poems should be submitted as a Word or PDF document
- Feel free to experiment with poetic forms and structures
Check out EDSC Library’s poetry collection and the CBCA Book Week website for inspiration. Showcase the power and passion of your poetry! Let your words take flight and embark on an adventure of imagination!
