ResourceSmart Schools Awards

We were very excited to be a finalist in the ResourceSmart Schools Awards. While we didn’t take home the win, it was a great day and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work of our Eco Club. We also got to hear from Costa, who was incredibly inspiring, and enjoyed checking out some amazing exhibits from other schools.

CERES Energy Audit with Grade 6

Bella from CERES visited FPS in May to conduct an energy audit with our Grade 6 students. As part of the audit, we surveyed 10 rooms and collected data on various factors including room temperature, heater settings, window glazing, and draughts. We used a lux meter to measure light levels and a Power-Pal to measure the energy usage of different appliances.

This hands-on experience helped us understand how much energy appliances use, and why it’s so important to turn them off when not in use. We also learned that heaters should be set to 21°C and turning them up higher doesn't heat a room any faster, even though many of us do that when we walk into a cold room!

The staff are doing an Energy PD with Andrew Vance on Wednesday to get inspired about renewable energy and how it can be used in the curriculum so we are well on the way to completing our third ResourceSmart School star.

ArtForAll Eco Club Stall Collection

Eco Club is now getting ready for our stall at ArtForAll. We’re currently collecting empty, clean tins and clean jars with lids. If you have any to donate, please drop them into the collection box at the school office. Thanks for your support!
