Hello BNWPS Community!
Our current Schoolwide Key Understanding is “Sharing stories helps us learn and connect to ourselves, people and places”. As part of our Schoolwide Key Understanding, many year levels are exploring big ideas like “Everyone has a story”. Storytelling and wellbeing go hand in hand.
Strengths are a significant part of a person’s story. At school, we teach Personal and Cultural Strengths as part of theRespectful Relationships, Rights and Resilience curriculum. Research suggests that “when you have the opportunity to use your strengths (those things you are good at and actually enjoy doing), you are likely to feel more confident, creative, engaged, and satisfied with your work and your life” (McQuad & Kern, 2017, p. 61).
The VIA Character Strengths Survey is an online free survey that has great language to describe and identify your strengths. There is an adult version and a youth version (ages 8-17). This week I have shared big smiles with kids as we have looked at our top and bottom strengths. Repeatedly, students would proclaim, “THAT’S DEFINITELY ME!”. I have linked the website below for you to have a play with at home if you’d like. Let me know if you do, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the survey and know what your strengths are!
