Birthdays Update:

At Western Heights, we love celebrating your child on their birthday at school. It’s a great example of us being a family.

Because you all love your children so much, and because so many parents are really kind and generous, these celebrations can become huge - giant cakes, presents for everyone, and it becomes a logistical challenge.

Added to that, we have a lot of children with food allergies and special dietary requirements. Managing this when a giant cake for a class of 30 arrives is a real challenge and a big safety concern.

We also have children with severe dairy allergies, egg allergies and many more that make sharing in a cake a big risk.

Sometimes these celebrations take up most of an important learning block.

So we need to make a few adjustments to ensure learning happens, children’s dietary challenges are looked after, and there isn’t a fire risk from lots of candles! 😉

Your child loves receiving their cool birthday card from me on their special day, and their classmates and teachers also love singing “Happy Birthday” to celebrate with them!

Going forward, we ask that cakes, pizzas, goody-bags etc, be kept for your celebrations at home rather than bringing them to school.

If your child would like to bring something to share with the whole class, we ask that it be something that can be easily handed out by your child just before the end of the day.

For example:

Lollipops / Stickers / Individual treats from a share pack or similar.

The last thing we want to do is spoil these special occasions for you, so thank you so much for your support. Let’s make birthdays less big but better. 😉
