Principal's Message

Dear parents and carers,

The 2026 NAPLAN results show that Catholic schools have outperformed both NSW and national averages in participation rates and learning outcomes. This reflects Catholic education’s strong commitment to assessment, the dedication and expertise of our teachers, and our ongoing support for students.

Participation rates in Catholic Systemic schools were higher than both NSW state and national averages for each year level and domain. Notably, the participation rates exceeded the national averages in each domain by 4% in Years 3 and 5, 5% in Year 7, and over 8% in Year 9.

Catholic Systemic schools continue to perform strongly in learning outcomes. 74% of Catholic systemic students across all years and domains achieved results in the Strong & Exceeding proficiency levels, which is well above the national average of 65% and the NSW average of 68%.

At St Xavier’s we believe that teachers must know exactly where their students are sitting in each subject and exactly what they need to move forward. The procedures of learning sprints, quick wins, small groups and individual sessions offer extended support not always available in other school settings. 

In Professional Learning Team meetings over the last fortnight I have been able to take part in the marking of some pieces of writing. The collaboration of the leadership team and the grade teams puts a powerful focus on a child’s work and enables rich discussion on “where to next?” 

The leadership team are very involved in the analysis of student data, we know the students and therefore can genuinely support the teachers in improving outcomes.
