The Shortlisted 2026 Book Week Notable books are here!

Book week is still a good couple of weeks away, but gosh we are so excited. We have in our library every single shortlised picture book, these lucky ducks! Our children were introduced to the titles this week and we will be reading a shortlisted book every week. They then get to vote for their favourite book and hope that our choice wins the 2026 Book of the Year award!

First of the rank was a book called Dear Broccoli by Jo Dabrowski with illustrations by Cate James. Dear Broccoli, Last night at dinner you were on my plate. AGAIN. Please don't come back. From, Frank. Dear Frank, I am afraid I cannot grant your request. The matter is out of my florets. Most respectful regards, Broccoli. A deliciously funny picture book that is sure to make even the pickiest of eaters look at their dinner in a new light. We absolutely loved this book! Overall as a school, we rated this book as 9.5/10.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

We have 62 children registered! A huge thank you to all our parents who have enabled this fantastic effort.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 and aims to help young readers develop a lifelong love of reading. It is not a competition; it is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by  Friday 4th  September, 2026.

It's not too late to join. If you would like your child to participate in the challenge, can you please return the note to the school office or via email. Then your child will be registered to participate in  the challenge.

If you have any questions about our Library, the Premier's reading challenge or the Scholastic Book club, please don't hestitate to email me at premalatha.parmar@shpreston.catholic.edu.au

Library sessions for 2026 will be held on Thursdays. Please kindly remind your child/children to return their books on the day.

Happy Reading!
