National Recycling Week and National Pollinator Week
St Norbert College has really become a powerhouse at recycling. Some of the items getting a second life thanks to the Climate Canons' hard work include paper, cardboard, containers for change, pens, bottle tops, can ring pulls, blister packs and jars. This term, the Year 7s are trialing a new bin system to help students think more about their waste. They have been pretty good so far, using the individual bins for selected waste and the better they get, the more they will be rewarded.
The Climate Canons have changed the way we view waste at the College, one piece at a time. On Thursday 9 and Friday 10 November, the Climate Canons hosted activities as well as a Blooket quiz to inform, excite and encourage staff and students to think about their waste.
Congratulations to Chloe Walker (Year 10, P7), Nabeel Rafidi (Year 7, P1), Alex Pilkington (Year 8, M6) and Miriam Bell (Year 7, M2) for achieving top scores in the quiz. They were rewarded with items made from recycled materials.
National Pollinator Week acknowledges our important and unique insect pollinators during spring. The Climate Canons raised awareness of the importance of pollinators by hosting lunchtime activities and a homeroom quiz on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 November. Our Bee-autiful bees encouraged students to play educational games about pollinators and learn more about what we can do to help attract pollinators to our gardens.
Thank you to all the students who came along at lunchtime and got involved in our quiz.
