Year 12 Graduation

On Tuesday 31 October, we gathered as a community to celebrate our wonderful Year 12 cohort and their graduation from St Mary's College.

Family, friends, teachers, Presentation Sisters and VIPs filled the Cathedral to honour the class of 2023 with a beautiful, reverent mass, during which the Year 12s received their parting gifts - a graduation ring and candle - and were sung the traditional blessing song, a touching tribute from our College staff.

Following mass, guests gathered in the Mary Morgan Wing for supper and to enjoy the delicious graduation cake. Each Year 12 student was also presented with a special keepsake on behalf of the St Mary's College Alumni Committee.

Congratulations to the Year 12 graduates! We wish you all the very best in the next chapter of your journeys and hope you hold close to your heart your memories of the College. May your light always shine bright, inspired by the example of our foundress, Nano Nagle.

Year 12 Leavers' Assembly and Belling Out

As part of their leavers' celebrations, our Year 12s enjoyed a final assembly to celebrate their legacy as a whole school. With Barbie as the theme, even staff joined in on the fun with a Barbie themed dance to serenade the Class of 2023.

The farewells concluded with the Belling Out - a long-standing tradition at SMC, with Year 12 students exiting the school through a guard of honour comprised of students and staff from Kinder to Year 11.

There certainly wasn't a dry eye in sight as the Year 12s made their way through the corridors, stopping to embrace their peers and exchange high-fives, before exiting the College gates and closing the final chapter on their school stories.

Planting the seeds of a legacy

Our Year 12 leaders have created a living legacy at SMC! Together with our Sustainability Officer, Phil Shanny, the group recently planted an apple tree in our luwutina kipli garden.

The tree will grow to provide fruit and shelter to future generations of SMC students and plants their mark amongst the alumni of SMC. It is a lovely reminder of how the Year 12s of 2023 have left their lasting legacy at the College.

We can't wait to see them back at the tree to enjoy an apple or two someday!

Storytelling Showcase

Our Junior School students have been busy writing away as part of the St Mary's College Junior School Storytelling Showcase.

Using a picture prompt to tell a story, the competition was an exciting opportunity for students to share their creativity and talents - and their hard work has paid off in spades.

Year 9 Rugby sessions

Our Year 9 students have been hard at work over the past three weeks, learning the rules of the game and the skills to become future Rugby stars.

It was fantastic to see students progress throughout the program, with all participants willing to have a go and try something new. A big thank you to Tasmania Rugby Union for their work in this program.

All Souls' Day

Our Year 4 students observed All Souls' Day on Thursday 2 November with a special visit to the Adrian Doyle Chapel.

This day encourages us to pray for the souls of their loved ones who may have passed away, in a quiet reflective space.

Students were invited to write a loved one's name on a paper heart and spend a moment of prayer in this sacred space.
