Our Trinity School community and its history

The church on our school site is not the first St James' Church in Richmond. The old St James' Church (The Catholic Directory of 1855 stated that: The small but handsome chapel-school at Richmond was solemnly opened and dedicated to God in honour of St James on the Feast of St Agatha, 5 February, 1854.) on the corner of Bridge Road and Coppin Street, Richmond was demolished when St Ignatius' Church was built, but the foundation stone was preserved to become part of the second, our present church. This stone was laid by Archbishop Carr on August 26th 1900 and our church was blessed and opened on December 16th 1900.

Our School - Trinity Primary School

In 2006 the site of St James Primary School was chosen as the preferred location for a merger with St Ignatius Primary School, Richmond and the school was then given the name Trinity Primary School.  In 2008 the closure of St John the Evangelist school, East Melbourne meant that, in  2009 Trinity Primary School was further strengthened, incorporating St John the Evangelist’s students into the school population.

St. James' School

As St James' School is a big part of our history. In March 1924, St James' School and Hall were blessed and opened. The first parish ball was held in this year. St James' Mothers Club started in 1947 with Mrs Watson as first President. We are very happy that that community feel continues with our Play Group on Wednesday mornings, where parents/carers can come with their little ones to enjoy a get together.

1924

Yes, I wrote 1924! This means that in March 2024 it is 100 years ago that our school (Trinity - St James) was opened. This is cause for a celebration!!!

SAVE THE DATE: March 23, 2024 - 100 Year Celebration of our Parish and Church Communities!

On Saturday 23rd March, 2024, we will have our 100 year celebration. A day that will be like a fete but it's not a fete, it is a celebration. Please watch this space for more information soon about how you can get involved.
