Grade 5/6

What a busy couple of weeks we have had in Grade 5/6! Here is just a little of what we have been up to...

Camp Activities

On the 27th September, the morning after the Year 2 sleepover, we hosted a range of camp-style activities for the Year 2 students, including leaf art, trivia, obstacle races and initiation games. Following this, the Year 5/6s were treated to a silent disco, which was very well received, with students bopping to some current favourites as well as old classics!

GTAC

On Monday 30th October, we were fortunate enough to take part in an incursion hosted by GTAC staff, in preparation for our excursion. We started to learn about the importance of bees and looked at bees and flowers under microscopes. We were all amazed by the fine details we saw and can't wait to learn more on our visit to GTAC.

Poetry

We have just started a poetry unit and started with 'Blackout Poems'.  Blackout poetry is when you take a written piece of text from a book, newspaper, or magazine and redact words, in order to come up with your very own poetry. Our students were given a page from an old library book... here are a couple of samples from our students.

Greta's reads: kind, amazing, beautiful, grateful, Jodie's mother.

Melody's reads: Horror after horror, helicopters and fire trucks. Phone is out, roads are closed. Blackened trees in flames. Red glow. Furniture was ash. Fire trucks, water tankers, road block.

South East Melbourne Phoenix Basketball

We were fortunate enough to welcome back the South East Melbourne Phoenix Basketball Club this week, after working with them in Term 1 through the Phoenix Soar program. Students were involved in a 30-minute basketball clinic, followed by a special player appearance for an hour after lunch. They were treated to a spectacle of skills from the players and selected students were able to play against the professionals- what an amazing opportunity!

Celebrating Student Voice

Congratulations to Elliana and Tahlia who had an idea, proposed it to Mr Webber and watched it come to fruition - the Halloween dress-up day and lunchtime disco. Our school was a flurry of all things spooky on the 31st of October and the lunchtime disco was a huge hit! Well done girls!
