What we have been learning in Maths in Year 2

We have been learning about Multiplication and Division in Mathematics. We’ve played games, made arrays, drawn pictures and used different strategies to solve number sentences.

My favourite strategy is using known facts to work out other number sentences . If I know that 5x5= 25, I now know that 6x5 must be 30.  Ava

I like to use known facts to work out the inverse number sentence: so 9x5=45 so 45 divided by 9 =5.  Amelia

I like to work with remainders when dividing. I worked out that when we shared the cost of an $18 pizza between 5 people there was a remainder of $3. So I divided that also. I split it into 50c and then 10c. It cost each of them $3.60.  Nora

I enjoy learning by playing online games such as Tricky Ball. You have to answer a set of multiplication or division facts and then you can move the ball. It is fun!  Will

The best way I have learned multiplication and division is by completing activities on Skills Quest in Mathletics. You have to solve the word problems. The first time I tried, I got it wrong but I tried again and then I got it right. I didn’t give up.  Ezra

I like to draw arrays to work out multiplication and division of facts. I now feel more confident with dividing numbers.  Hugh

I like to play Flip with a partner. You flip two cards and the first person to multiply them correctly wins the two cards. I am getting quicker at it and it is fun!  Max

I like playing Connect Three. You have to roll 2 dice and put a counter on the answer. If you get three in a row you win!  James

We like to play Match it. We match the facts to the pictures of the arrays.  Lily and Millie
