Term 4 Curriculum Update

Now that we are well into the swing of teaching and learning, here is a curriculum update for Term 4!

Foundation

Our Foundation students  have commenced the term investigating their bodies and senses. This week they have focused on the sense of hearing and have created writing pieces that show both their knowledge of the subject and their developing phonics knowledge.

Later in the term our Foundies will embark on the unit, Taking Care of our Earth.

Junior School

The Junior students have stepped back in time, to the early Maya, Inca and Aztec civilizations, before they continue learning about the Culture of Mexico. They have been listening to and writing about these early civilizations and will continue to learn about how these cultures have evolved and continue into the present day. 

Middle School

Our Middle School students are enjoying their first student choice unit after our Curriculum Committee conducted surveys around what the students wanted to learn about. They have been reading and writing about oceans as habitats and investigating the amazing animals that live in these habitats.

Senior School

It has been wonderful to hear that our Senior students have been talking to their parents about money, as their curiosities spike in their first student choice unit, Understanding Business. Budgeting, credit cards and inflation are topics of conversation in Senior classrooms, as well as how marketing and advertising influences our ‘wants.’ Senior students are currently identifying persuasive strategies used in advertising so that they can create, brand and market their own products.

What do we notice about these ads? Where might they be advertised? Who is their audience? What persuasive devices can we see?
