The newest building on the Clyde North Campus recently celebrated its first birthday. The Performing Arts Centre, also known as the Geode Building, was blessed and opened October27, 2022.  At the time, the Principal of St. Peter’s College, Mr. Chris Black, said “We were blessed to have in attendance Bishop Greg Bennet to bless the building and for Pauline Richards, MLA for Cranbourne and Ms Maria Kirkwood, Director and Chief Executive of CatholicEducation, Sale Diocese to officially open ‘The Geode Centre.’ The cost of the project was $15 million with the state government contributing $14 million.” He also explained the origin of the name Geode. “A Geode is a spherical rock structure which has a durable outer wall with the inner layers revealing the beauty of a cavernous core.” The name was chosen because St. Peter was like the geode. He was originally named Simon.  He was a fisherman by trade, and the evidence of scripture suggests that he had a gruff, sometimes impetuous, outer exterior. For example, on the night that Jesus was betrayed Peter took his sword, yes, he carried one, and cut off the ear of the High Priest’s servant (John18:10-11).  Jesus recognised this gruffness, as well as Peter’s inner strength, when he said, ‘...you are Peter (meaning rock) and on this rock I will build my church.’ (Matt 16:18). These words, in Latin, are inscribed on the statue of St. Peter in the St. Peter’s College Chapel and remind us of both Peter’s role as the leader of the early Church but also his, all too human, frailties.  The Performing Arts Centre aka The Geode Building has already had several firsts, including the recent college production of Legally Blonde, the Musical and performance nights for students studying subjects such as Music and Drama.  St. Peter’s College community looks forward to many more performances and ‘firsts’ to be presented and celebrated in The Geode Performing Arts Centre.

Casey Creations

Casey Creations is a creative arts competition for young people in Grade 5 – Year 12 who live, work or study within the City of Casey. This annual competition is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the talent of students and to showcase their ability to the broader community.  The competition is split into three categories:

  • Visual Arts
  • Photography
  • Young People with Disability – Photography & Visual Arts

Layla Evans in Year 9 entered a technically skilled and endearing photograph of a parrot into the competition. Using a shallow depth of field, she was able to create emphasis on the texture of the bird's feathers and highlight its character. Her beautiful work was selected as the winner for the intermediate section for Photographic works. Congratulations on your winning piece Layla!
