Media and Technologies

Mr Adam Horne

Dear Karoo Primary School Families,

As I reflect on the remarkable journey of technology integration at our school, I'm excited to share insights into the tools that have played pivotal roles in my classroom this year. The enthusiasm and curiosity from both students and parents have been truly inspiring. Many of you have inquired about the technologies driving our educational experiences, so let's take a closer look at some of the meaningful ways our students have engaged with these essential tools.

Digital Storytelling with Panasonic Lumix FZ300 and RODE Videomic GO II: Our students transformed into storytellers, using the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 and RODE Videomic GO II to capture and narrate their learning journeys. The short films and beautiful photography created this year is just the beginning for what these tools will be used for to empower our students to express their ideas visually and verbally, while enhancing their communication skills in the process.

Screen-less Coding Adventures with Blu-Bots and Sphero Indie Robots: The world of coding came alive through hands-on experiences with Blu-Bots and Sphero Indie Robots. Students

delved into screen-less coding activities, fostering a deeper understanding of computational thinking. These robots became invaluable companions in the exploration of problem-solving and logical reasoning, making coding accessible and enjoyable.

Podcasting with Otto USB Studio Mic: Enter the world of podcasting! Our students embraced the art of audio storytelling using an inexpensive USB studio microphone from OfficeWorks. This budget-friendly tool allowed them to create engaging podcasts, sharing their thoughts, research findings, and interviews. It opened up a new avenue for self-expression and honed their public speaking skills in an exciting and accessible way.

The stories that unfolded in our classrooms this year showcased the transformative impact of technology on education. Students not only learnt new skills but also developed a love for learning that extends beyond the traditional curriculum. I am incredibly excited to continue this journey next year with Karoo as we continue to build and prepare our students for the future.

Tech-tastically yours,

Mr Horne
