Junior Inodnesian Incursion

Ibu Kas

Juniors (and some lucky foundation students who were split into junior classes on Thursday) learned to play real gamelan instruments. Gamelan means orchestra and the instruments in this orchestra had come all the way from Java.

ST used their gamelan skills to help bring to life the dances of the other classes as they told the stories of clever Kancil the mousedeer. There was a beautiful butterfly dance, a snappy crocodile dance and lots of prowling tigers in Kancil’s jungle. She even met an elephant. Everyone looked specular in their Indonesian dance costumes and put on a wonderful show!

Terima kasih to Aaron and Nita from Baguskan who brought all the instruments and costumes with them and did a great job teaching us. Thanks also to the junior team who got classes where they needed to be and somehow got everyone in and out of their costumes in no time at all! Special congratulations to Tomlin who was a wonderful narrator and to Matilde who was a very clever and adaptable Kancil – coping with everything a live performance can throw at you and even helping out the director at times!
