Winter Wellbeing Week : Monday 15 - Friday 19 June

Next week, the College will celebrate Winter Wellbeing Week, an initiative designed to promote student wellbeing and encourage positive mental health during the colder months. The week has been organised by our Wellbeing Leaders, who have created engaging lunchtime activities running from Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June to help students connect, relax, and take a break from academic pressures.

A key highlight will be Shorts Day on Friday 19 June, where students are encouraged to wear sports uniform with shorts and bring a gold coin donation. Donations can also be made online via:

https://www.shortsday.com.au/mount-carmel-college. Families are also encouraged to watch last year’s Shorts Day video, which showcases the strength and unity of our school community.

We are also excited to welcome Speak Up! Stay ChatTY on Friday 19 June, who will share important messages about mental health awareness and the importance of checking in with ourselves and others.

In addition, staff will be taking part in a friendly “joke competition” throughout the week, with prizes awarded for the Funniest Joke, Best Dad Joke, Most Creative Pun, and Most Groan-Worthy Joke. This light-hearted initiative is designed to bring some laughter into the week and strengthen staff wellbeing and community spirit.

Winter Wellbeing Week is a valuable opportunity to strengthen a culture of care within the College. It reminds us that wellbeing is a shared responsibility and that small actions, like participating in activities, checking in with others, or sharing a laugh, can make a meaningful difference.

Today, students across the College participated in the My Mind Check program, designed to support student wellbeing and provide meaningful insights into how young people are feeling. It was wonderful to see such strong engagement from the school community, with over 500 students signing up to take part in the program. This level of participation reflects a positive culture within the College, where wellbeing is recognised as an important foundation for learning, connection, and personal growth.

The My Mind Check program provides students with an opportunity to reflect on their mental health and emotional wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment. It also helps the school identify trends and ensure that appropriate supports and resources are in place for students who may need additional assistance. By taking part, students are contributing to a broader understanding of wellbeing across the school, which allows staff to respond in informed and proactive ways.

It is especially encouraging to see the College community come together in this way, demonstrating a shared commitment to student care and support. Programs such as My Mind Check play an important role in normalising conversations around mental health and encouraging students to seek help when needed. They also reinforce the message that wellbeing is just as important as academic success.

The College remains committed to providing a range of evidence-based wellbeing programs and support services to ensure all students feel safe, supported, and connected. Initiatives like this help build a stronger, more aware school community where every student is given the opportunity to thrive.
