Region Cross Country
Our four Essex Heights Primary students performed extremely well in the Division event and thoroughly deserved their qualification to compete in the Region race on Thursday 11 June. The Eastern Region Cross Country course at Yarra Glen Racecourse was very challenging, especially the steady hill towards the end of the race. Everyone should be pleased with their efforts, proudly representing Essex Heights. Mr Perini and I were excited to watch them participate. Congratulations Grace, Reece, Emily and Alia!
On the 11th of June, I along with three other students represented our school in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country. This event was held at the Yarra Glen Racecourse. Although I was nervous at times, it was a great experience to compete at a higher level after qualifying from Division. I enjoyed meeting other runners, while also wanting to do my best. Although we all tried our very hardest, we didn’t manage to snatch a place to State. This race was not only a competition, but it taught us perseverance, determination and mental focus. A huge shoutout to Mr Perini and Ms Hocking for supporting us.
Reece – Year 6
I represented Essex Heights at Region Cross Country on the 11th of June at Yarra Glen Racecourse. This was my first time making it to Region Cross Country, so I was very nervous, but I was also really excited. I was proud of myself for making it that far and finishing 50th out of 79 runners. One of the best parts of the day was getting to hang out with my sister and brother because they made it to Region Cross Country too.
I would like to thank my Mum and Dad for supporting me and driving me to the event. I would also like to say a big thank you to Ms Hocking and Mr Perini for coming along to watch all the Essex kids race and for always being so encouraging and supportive.
Alia – Year 4
On the 11th of June I competed in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country Championships. I raced in the 12/13-year-old girls age group and came 43rd. I achieved a personal best, a great way to wrap up cross country for this year. Overall, I’ve made unforgettable memories and met countless friends through all the cross-country races I’ve run for this school.
Thank you for the help and support I’ve received from Ms Hocking, Mr Perini, my parents and of course my friends. I can’t wait to see what I can achieve next year in Year 7.
Grace C – Year 6
On the 11th of June I competed in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country. It was a sunny day, but the course was wet and muddy which made it a lot harder. I gave it my all and ended up coming 46th and got a PB of 13:31. I want to give a big shout out to my mum for driving me there and Ms Hocking and Mr Perini for coming down to watch us. I would also like to give a shout out to Grace, Reece and Alia who also competed on the day and all the other people who represented our school in cross country.
Emily – Year 5
Year 5 & 6 Senior Hooptime Basketball
The competition day on Thursday 18 June finally arrived after many training sessions at school, for all the teams. Congratulations to all four teams who participated on the day – two All Stars, one Futures girls and one Rookies team. It was great to see our students showing teamwork and sportsmanship.
Huge thank you to Miss Kemp for co-ordinating the team selection and coaching both All Stars teams. Many thanks to the parents who scored on the day: Hilary Leigh, Neng Semmens and Kat Pryde.
Congratulations to the Girls’ All Stars who won their final and will compete in Region finals next term. Thanks to my son Nathan for coaching the Futures girls’ team. Great achievement for the Rookies team who were undefeated on the day.
