An Open Mindset Can Boost Mental & Brain Health (by Dr. Caroline Leaf)

How do we get comfortable with the uncomfortable?

How do we have challenging conversations?

  1. Recognize that each person comes with their own lived experiences
  2. Go into a discussion with a learning mindset - ask questions
  3. Before going into a discussion, notice what your brain & body are telling you
  4. Watch how you frame your words, body language & tone
  5. Avoid social media fights
  6. Don't interrupt

Some other things to consider are:

  • Understand your biases
  • Stop making assumptions
  • Find the middle ground
  • Learn from your mistakes
  • Ask questions about things you don't know or understand
  • Get out of your comfort zone
  • An open mind is a growing mind, and research indicates that we are always learning no matter how old we are.
