Year 5/6 Boys  SAPSASA KNOCKOUT SOCCER RUNNERS UP!

SEMI-FINAL RESULT - LNPS DEFEATED HIGHGATE

Last Wednesday, our Year 5/6 Boys Soccer Team proudly represented Lockleys North Primary at the SAPSASA Knockout Soccer Finals at the impressive Service FM Stadium.

The excitement was electric as the boys arrived, fired up and ready to test themselves against some of the best teams in the state.

Our Semi Final clash against Highgate Primary kicked off at 9:30am, and from the very first whistle, the game was a tense and thrilling battle. Both teams pressed forward with determination, creating nail-biting chances at either end. It was Highgate who struck first, threading a long ball through to their striker, who calmly slotted it under our keeper to make it 1–0.

The LNPS boys refused to let their heads drop. They fought back with grit and resilience, gradually swinging momentum in their favour. Sustained pressure in the box kept Highgate scrambling, and after a flurry of corners and desperate tackles, Nathanael pounced in the box to fire home the equaliser 1–1!

With everything on the line, the game headed into extra time. Every pass, tackle, and shot carried weight, and just when it looked like Highgate might steal it at the death, our brilliant goalkeeper, Patrick Gibson, pulled off a jaw-dropping double save in the final moments. His heroics kept the dream alive, sending the game to penalties.

From the spot, our boys were ice-cool under pressure. Hamish, Nathanael, Steffen, and Rio all buried their penalties with confidence and class. Then, once again, Patrick stepped up, producing a HUGE clutch save that sealed the victory. The final score: LNPS 4 – Highgate 2 on penalties.

It was a game filled with courage, teamwork, and resilience. The boys’ passion and determination shone through every moment, and the roar of celebration when victory was confirmed will be remembered for years to come. What a performance!

GRAND-FINAL RESULT ST COLUMBA DEFEATED LNPS

In the Grand Final, LNPS faced a very strong St Columba side. We started a little sluggish, but still managed to carve out some promising opportunities, breaking their backline on several occasions.

Unfortunately, the final touch just didn’t quite fall our way. At the other end, Patrick was outstanding, pulling off a string of saves to keep the team in the contest.

St Columba’s pressure eventually broke us, as two brilliant solo runs gave them a 2–0 lead at half-time. Many teams might have folded, but not LNPS. The boys showed incredible resilience, and midway through the second half Steffen clawed one back with a tidy finish. That goal lit a fire, and the chase for the equaliser was on. With minutes to play, the ball bounced around in the box and Captain Steff pounced striking fiercely with his left foot to bury the ball in the bottom corner. 2–2!

The match went into extra time, and both teams pushed with everything they had. Defenders tackled with grit, midfielders ran themselves ragged, and both keepers kept their sides alive.

Then, with just 10 seconds left on the clock, a hopeful ball from St Columba deflected off a head and dropped perfectly for their striker, who poked it home from close range. Heartbreak. The final whistle blew: St Columba 3 – LNPS 2.

Pride in Our Team

Although the boys were devastated, their sportsmanship and maturity shone through. They congratulated the opposition, held their heads high, and reflected on a campaign that saw them finish second in the state for the Large School Competition, an incredible achievement.

Every player displayed passion, teamwork, and determination, making our whole school community proud. A huge well done to the squad, you represented LNPS with courage and spirit, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Well done team, you have represented LNPS brilliantly!

State SAPSASA Hockey Carnival

I am happy to report that the State SAPSASA Hockey Carnival 2025 was an amazing 3 days with the predicted bad weather not impacting our games.

I was selected to play in the Western Metro boys’ team which ended up finishing equal second with 4 wins, 4 draws and only 1 loss.

Our only loss was the first game of the carnival.  We improved as the day went on and finished the day with the one loss, one draw and one win.

As we adjusted to playing on grass rather than turf, on day two, we drew two games and won one.

The final day started with our only game on the main pitch where we clinched a 1-0 win, then onto our best win 3-0.  Our final game was against the top team who were heading in undefeated.  The team played hard and scored the first goal, only to have our opposition equal in the second half, with the game finishing as a 1-1 draw.

This year I played my natural midfield/striker position and scored 5 of our team goals. I also set my team mate up for one of the best goals of the carnival.

Playing in the carnival this year was a lot of fun as I had two teammates from my Adelaide University Hockey Club (AUHC) with me.  Another two team mates were successful in making the Western metro girls’ team.  A fifth team mate played for the Central metro district – although he did seem to spend more time hanging with the AUHC gang than his own team!

Thank you to Renee Hanna (West Beach Primary School) for being our team coordinator – and our amazing coaches, Evie and Cadance for putting up with 12 loud boys.

Finally, congratulations to the River & Hills team on winning the 2025 boys’ competition.
