Principal`s Message

As we approach the end of Term 3, the energy around the school is unmistakable. Spring is in the air, bringing with it a sense of renewal and growth, both in nature and in our classrooms. As educator Robert John Meehan once said, “Spring is the time of plans and projects,” and that certainly rings true here at school.

Our Year 1/2 students recently enjoyed a vibrant excursion to the NGV, exploring art creativity and sustainability in new ways, foundation students and their teachers will be visiting the Collingwood Children`s Farm next week, meanwhile our Year 1 students have completed their Phonics Screening Check — a valuable milestone in their literacy journey

Parent Teacher Interviews/Pupil Free Day

Looking ahead, Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Thursday, 18th September. These interviews are a vital opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers and celebrate their progress. We strongly encourage you to attend with your child, as their voice and reflections are an important part of the conversation. If you haven’t already, please make a booking via Compass. Please contact Leapkids if you would like to book your child in for OHSC.

Planning for 2026

Planning for 2026 is now underway. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be finalising class structures and staffing levels. If your family plans to move at the end of the year, please notify Mary in the office as soon as possible. Accurate enrolment numbers help us create balanced and well-supported classes. Likewise, if you know of anyone who is yet to enrol their child for 2026 please encourage them to do so as soon as possible.

Parent Carer Opinion Survey

A reminder that the Parent and Carer Opinion Survey closes next Friday, 19th September. So far, we’ve had a response rate of 28%, and we’re aiming to reach 50%. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and helps shape our school’s future. The survey is available in a range of languages to ensure accessibility for all families.

Capital Works

Many of you will have noticed the progress on the Napier Street Renewal Project. Demolition is now almost complete, and the project continues to move at a pace. It’s exciting to see this transformation taking shape, and we look forward to the long-term benefits it will bring to our school and community.

French Connections

The last two weeks have also been a busy and exciting time for our French bilingualprogram. We were proud to host the principals of other French bilingual schools across Melbourne for a collaborative discussion on key issues in bilingual education. We also welcomed Guillaume Cario from the Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Étranger (AEFE), who oversees the Pacific region. In addition, Lorna represented our school at a special meeting at Auburn High School, which brought together three French senators andMadame Paule Ignatio, the French Consul to Melbourne. These connections continue to strengthen our program and reinforce our place in the broader French-speaking education community.

A couple of important reminders as we wrap up the term:

  • Next Friday, 19th September, school will finish one hour early at 2:30pm. Please ensure you’ve made arrangements for your child’s pick-up.
  • Term 4 is our SunSmart term. All students will need a hat for recess and lunch times. Please check that your child’s hat is clearly labelled and ready to go.

Have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing happy and recharged faces return for another exciting term.

-Scott Burton, Principal
