Ā
Prefixes we will revisit -Ā
un - meaning not or opposite eg untie, unzip
pre - meaning before eg preview
re - meaning again or go back eg replay, return
dis - meaning not or apart eg dislike, disconnect
Ā
Suffixes we will revisit -Ā
'ed' and 'ing' - change a verb's tense eg jumped, jumping
'ly' - makes describing words eg quickly
-s and -es make nouns plural eg cats, boxes
'er' - meaning more than eg taller
'est' - meaning the most eg tallest
'less' - meaning without eg helpless
'ful' - meaning full of eg hopeful

Understanding both prefixes and suffixes helps children work out the meaning of new words when they are reading and spelling
Ā
We will also look at the doubling rule when adding 'ed' and 'ing'

Mentor Text:Ā
Ā
This week we are using last weekās mentor text How to Move a Zoo to guide our learning. Just like the author used facts and clear structure to explain how a zoo was moved, we are applying the same strategies to research and write our own information reports about elephants. We are looking closely at how information is organised, the use of interesting facts, and how diagrams or special features can help a reader understand more. This will help us create well-structured and engaging reports of our own.
Ā
We are teaching Grade 2 students to take notes by writing down key words and short phrases, instead of full sentences, so they can organise their research more clearly for their reports
Ā
You might like to talk with your child about what they have learned about elephants, such as their diet, habitat, and special features. You could ask them to share an interesting fact, explain how they found their information, or describe how they are turning their research notes into a finished report.Ā
Ā
What can you do at home?
-Nessy is a great literacy resource to use that supplements your child's reading in a fun engaging way on their iPad
-Ask comprehension questions about your child's take home book or a book you read togetherĀ
-Ask your child to discuss what they liked or didn't like about a book they have just read. Encourage the use of the word 'because!'

āMaths
Grade One:
Grade 1 students will be working on data and place value. They will count and record information using tally marks, as well as sorting ideas into different categories to gather data. Students will be beginning to interpret the data they collect by noticing patterns and making simple conclusions. This will help build their understanding of number while connecting maths to real-life situations.
Ā
What can you do at home?
You can support your child by encouraging them to practise counting everyday objects at home, such as pieces of fruit, toys, or steps when walking. You could also create simple tally charts togetherāfor example, recording the colours of cars that drive past or favourite family meals. Talking about which group has āmoreā or ālessā can help children interpret data.
Ā
Grade Two:
Grade 2 students will be building their Maths skills by exploring data and place value in more depth. They will be learning to collect data through surveys, observations, and simple experiments, then sort and organise the information that they gather. Using digital tools, students will be representing their findings in clear and creative ways which may include creating graphs with software. This helps students to see how data can be used to answer questions and notice patterns.
Ā
What can you do at home?
Encourage your child to collect and sort data at home, such as surveying family members about their favourite foods or observing the weather each day and Ā record results in a simple table or tally chart, then discuss what the data shows.
Ā
š§āš» Cyber SafetyĀ
In our Cyber Safety lesson, students are learning to consider the impact their words can have on others in online spaces. We are exploring how the things we write or share can affect someoneās feelings and why it is important to choose words that show integrity and kindness. By practising respectful communication, students learn how to create safe and positive online interactions.
Ā
š CBL - ChangeĀ
This term our whole school will be celebrating our school's 130th birthday. Our CBL big idea, Change, lends itself to discovering a lot about how Wonga Park has changed over this time.Ā
Ā
As part of our CBL challenge, classes will be working towards creating their own versions of games that were played many decades ago. This week, students will continue rotations across their year level, learning about simple games that were popular more than 100 years ago.
Ā
š School Wide Positive Behaviour:Ā
We will continue to be kind, be safe and be a learner especially when playing outside during playtimes.Ā
Ā
š©š¼āāļøšØš½āāļø Reminders:
If your child requires medication during the school day, a medication administration form must be completed. This form is available from the school office. For safety reasons, students should not carry medication in their school bags. All medication must be delivered directly to the office by an adult.
