Sports News

What a great term of sport we have had at Tally. Our sporting academies are growing in strength and our students are doing really well in our local competitions.
Sporting Achievements
Congratulations to the following students who have had some great success competing at representative carnivals.
Jed – Crowned National Champion in the Australian MMA tournament. This is the second year running that Jed has defended his title which is an amazing feat. Well done Jed!
Eva - Who ran well at the South Coast Track and Field, qualifying for the team to compete at State Titles. Good luck Eva!
Allschools Touch Football
Well done to all of our students that trialled for our Allschools touch football teams. It was extremely challenging narrowing our students down to the selected teams, but also really exciting with how much talent we have coming through the grades as our programs continue to grow. Congratulations to the students selected. We are excited to put in the hard work leading up to the carnival next term. A massive thank you to Mrs Slattery for her time and dedication to helping with the touch program.
Gold Coast Primary Schools Gala Day
Congratulations to our Year 6 Rugby League team who competed at for the Gold Coast primary schools Gala Day. The team played extremely well to finish the day with 3 wins and a draw. Thank you to Mr Simpson and Mrs Slattery for taking our team along on the day.
Palm Beach Classic – Surfing
Congratulations to Willis, Zaylah, and Kruz who competed in the Palm Beach Classic surf competition last week. The students were treated to amazing glassy conditions with some fun waves rolling through for the surfers. Our students competed against surfers from Palm Beach SS, Currumbin SS, Burleigh SS and Coolangatta SS. They all surfed really well and did themselves proud.
Year 3 and 4 Intra School Gala Day
Last week our year 3 and 4 students competed in their intraschool Gala Day. The year 3 students competed in a full day netball tournament while our year 4 students competed in their full day touch tournament. The day started with some coaching from our house captains before breaking into their teams to work on their tactics and team cheers. The house captains then ran a session with their teams about our Tally Way sportsmanship and gamesmanship which focuses on competing and playing hard and tough but fair and respectful of the officials and finally our sportsmanship at the end of the game. Once the teams had sorted out their team cheers for the day it was game on. The level of competition was fantastic and the games were exciting to watch. Our house captains did an amazing job of officiating the games and our players demonstrated the Tally Way at all times. After 5 intense rounds of games our students settled into the finals. Congratulations to 3/4 Pink for their win in the netball. Touch football will be having an overtime game this week as the final ended in a tie with no time left in the day for overtime. Thank you to our specialist teachers, Scotty, Mr Simpson and Mr Tengdahl for their help on the day. We are looking forward to next terms competition.
Prep and Year 1 Swimming
Well done to all of our Prep and year 1 students who completed their water safety program with Sunny Skyes Swim School. Our students did an amazing job stepping out of their comfort zones to learn some new water safety skills. After talking with the students the highlight was definitely the Pyjama Day where they got to demonstrate their water safety skills fully dressed in pyjamas. Well done swimmers. Next term our year 2 - 3 students will be having their swimming program.
Gala Day – Years 5 & 6
Well done to all of our Year 5 and 6 students who competed in their final Gala Day for the year. Our teams all did an amazing job over the 3 Gala Days and it was great to see them developing their skills each week with their Friday afternoon training sessions. We had some great feedback from the other schools about not only how well our teams competed but their respect towards the officials and sportsmanship towards the other teams. Well done Team Tally.
Year 5 and 6 Recreational Sport
Next term our year 5 and 6 students will take part in our recreational sport program on Friday afternoons. This Friday sport program allows our students the opportunity to pick and try out a recreation or adventure sport for 6 weeks during school time. The sports on offer for our students are surfing, mountain biking, taekwondo, ten pin bowling, golf, orienteering, pickleball and hip hop dance. Some of the sports on offer will have outside coaches and trainers in for the sessions. The number of students able to attend each sport will be capped to ensure supervision and safety requirements are met.
