Senior Update

This week, we have reflections from all of our Year 5 and 6 students...
Bekim and Charlotte - Yellow Sport House Captains
This term at St Joseph's, we have been very busy! We’ve had school swimming, the Dendy Athletics Carnival, and the Basketball Lightning Premiership, as well as lots of sports clinics in PE.
Year 6 has also been busy with the Transitions Program. Over the last 2 weeks, we have been doing a program, run by Stonnington Youth Services, to help us prepare for High school.
Maximillian and Jamie - STEM Captains
The past few weeks in STEM, the Year 4, 5 and 6s have been working on designing something to print on the 3D printer! We first had to make a sketch of what we wanted to do, then we went into a special software called TinkerCad to model the print so that we could upload the design to the 3D printer. I, Jamie, have modelled a fidget toy, or at least tried to; it's actually really hard!
In Sustainability, we have been going really well with the container deposit scheme, as we have been collecting loads of bottles.
Just a reminder to hand in your bottles on Friday to Jamie, Stella, Max and me!
Sienna and Stella - Art Captains
Now that the term has ended, we can look back at the biggest highlight of the year! The biggest highlight of the term and year has been the production of Beauty and the Beast! From painting cardboard candles to performing on the night, everybody has been our guest. Being backstage was a scary but exciting experience where everybody was nervously waiting for their scenes. We hope the next production in two years is just as fun.
Victor - Green House Captain
Swimming
We have been swimming every Monday to Thursday at Ashburton this week and in the previous week. Each session was a trying but fun day.
Transition
Every Wednesday for 2 weeks, people from the Stonnington Youth Services came to help us with strategies for high school and how to not be the only kid that always gets in trouble and also how to cope with it too
Oscar - Red House Captain
Highlights of Term 3
I thought that swimming was really fun. We did so many activities, such as games at the end, and we also did freestyle, backstroke, and so many other things. Swimming is really fun!
Production! I really enjoyed the production. I was the book seller, and I was Villager 1. I really enjoyed it because I loved saying my bit, and I like how the Preps did their part too. I thought everyone did a really good job. I really enjoyed my role, and I am sure that everyone else did too.
Pip - Red House Captain
My highlights of this term:
I loved doing so many sports this term, especially because I am a sports captain, and I get to be the role model, and I get to help out! The sports we have played have been Basketball, Dendy Athletics, Swimming lessons and many more fun things. Swimming has been especially fantastic because at the end, once we have finished all our hard work, we get to go on an amazing waterslide! Excluding sport, the term has been such a great experience with the production. I can't wait to watch it!
Year 5 Term 3 Reflections

This term was the biggest term of my life! I’ll explain everything to you!
First of all, we had the Beauty and the Beast production, which happens every two years. I was a narrator who introduced the story through the articulation of the mouth. It was a pretty big night with all the lights, makeup and microphones. The trepidation really hit me on the first night. I really enjoyed it in the end!

In Term 3, we did……..
Swimming lessons! We learned new skills that some of us had never done before. For 8 days, we went swimming and we did 30-minute lessons.
We also had PJ day. What we did was put on our PJs instead of wearing our school uniform. We brought a mug in to get some hot chocolate - it was so good! I felt so cosy all day because I was in my PJs. I wish we could wear PJs every day to be cosy every single day.
Basketball. The Year 5 and 6 basketball team went to the basketball Lightning Premiership. Everyone who went was so good, and everyone had a great time. I hope we can win next year!

The roar of the crowd echoed down the hall as the performers went off stage and the castle people got ready to go on. It was scary at the start, but you got better through the performances. The people singing ‘Gaston’ were doing awesome as the light shone in my eyes. As I stood off stage, ready to go with the flow in front of the stage, I saw my dad smile at me. I was tired, but I was determined to keep going. I did a lot of work, so I didn't want that to go to waste!

Term 3 has been a truly incredible term, and these are some of my highlights! I really liked swimming because I really liked Freestyle, Survival Backstroke, Dolphin Kick and Frog Kick. Next, I really liked Production. In Production, the thing that I liked the most was the acting, singing, dancing and dressing up, it’s so much fun! As well as being backstage and the thrill of hearing all the cheers as you come on, and having to remember your lines. I can’t imagine how much muscle memory the Beast and Belle have. After that, another highlight was Book Week. In Book Week, same as Production, I loved dressing up with a nice vest, coat, buttoned-up shirt, cool goggles, face paint, a fake pipe and an old-time hat. Another thing that I enjoyed in Book Week was playing as this amazing book character!
Daniel
During Term 3, we did production, which was really fun because I got a good role! We looked down and saw lots and lots of people; there were hundreds of people! I was really scared, but I had fun doing it!

TERM 3 HIGHLIGHTS
PRODUCTION
On the 20th and 21st of August, St Joseph's Primary School, (my school) had our production, which was … BEAUTY and the BEAST! There was music and action, and we were all flabbergasted due to the bundle of excitement and nervousness. No one forgets a single line or word, which is amazing. It’s hard to explain the feeling of being on stage, really, it's all too overwhelming, but the only thing you need to know is that it was the funnest night of the year and that your child was able to connect with their classmates, teachers, and friends through this amazing night that we had.
BOOK WEEK
On the 1st of September, we had BOOK WEEK!!! As I waltzed through the gate, the wind was knocked out of me as I saw little pigs playing tag, a gang of Dog Men, and a bunch of Belles (but zero Beasts to go with them). We had an awesome, theatrical, and amazing parade. Everyone really got into their favourite book characters. We had to disguise gingerbread men as our favourite book character, we had a Where’s Wally scavenger hunt, and a draw your favourite book character. Overall, it was absolutely amazing!
Xavier
In Term 3, we have had lots of fun experiences in these 9 weeks and an abundance of things for me to tell you about!
My favourite thing to tell you about was the production. In this, I played the character Lefou, which has been really fun for me and my peers. The lights, the audience filled my nerves, and I slowly walked up to the stage. I am proud of what I have done.
