John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Rowing Families

Our final two events of our rowing program in 2025 have been held, with a wet and windy House Regatta and Presentation Dinner on Saturday 6 September.

Our Year 7 Learn to Row program continues for one more week, and the students are progressing and rowing further each session.

House Regatta

Our rowers showed House spirit and resilience at the House Regatta, taking to the water in very wet and windy conditions.  Due to some Houses having very few rowers, we thank coaches and ex-rowers for jumping in to fill the seats, allowing everyone to participate.

A special mention to the Year 8s who braved the conditions to race in only their third regatta. We hope it’s the windiest regatta you’ll ever have to row in! A ‘super quad’ also took to the water with the Senior Boys boating a colourful combined House crew, although they were given a run for their money in the race.

Loyola was the victorious House on the day, with the tutu’s making all the difference when they weren’t getting caught in the slide. The costumes of the rowers in all Houses were great to see, and we hope the rowers continue to embrace the fun spirit of the House Regatta next year.

Presentation Dinner

The Presentation Dinner on Saturday was a fabulous culmination to our season. We recognised all rowers, coaches, committee members, Mr Daniel Mahon and the College and importantly our rowing parents for everyone getting through the season.

Our thanks go to our wonderful Committee for their tireless work throughout the year, and we look forward to the continued support of this group next year. We said ‘goodbye and thank you’ to two departing Committee members, Angus Samson and Gavin Allen, who leave us this year.

The night is a chance to hear from our rowers and coaches who gave us an often hilarious glimpse into each squad’s season. Thomas Ellis also created a fantastic video of the Queensland Rowing Tour, which Senior rowers went on during the July holidays.

As well as enjoying a few laughs with each other, the Presentation Dinner provides us with an opportunity to celebrate our Award Winners. Coaches select a ‘Most Improved’, ‘Best Rower’ and the ‘Best Club Person’ for boys and girls. These individuals should be proud of their achievements through the season, and we look forward to seeing their development next year.

Year 7 Learn to Row

There is one more week of the Year 7 Learn to Row program and everyone should be very proud of their efforts on the water. The wind has been a little strong, but the students have shown resilience in getting out on the water with lots of students putting their hand up to row in double sculls.

We hope the students have enjoyed the experience and are eagerly awaiting sign up for Year 9 rowing which will be open in the middle of Term 4.

Please contact me if you have any queries.

Uniforms

The new zootsuit is now in stock at the Uniform Shop. There is also a training top which can be worn under the zootsuit. The only compulsory item is the zootsuit for racing at regattas. There is stock of the old Zootsuit which can be worn. Year 8 students can wear their PE uniform to the race and are not required to purchase a zootsuit.

Stack Team App

Please download the Stack Team App if you have not already done so. This app is one of our main avenues for communication with rowers and their parents. This is the central place for training schedules, training updates, and rowers can contact their coach in case of illness or injury and missed trainings. It is important that all rowers and parents have access.

To get this app please go to the App Store or Google Play and download Stack Team App onto your mobile device, then follow these simple steps:

  1. Sign-up to Stack Team App. You’ll be sent an email to confirm your registration.
  2. Log-in and search for JTCRC, then request to become a member.
