Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

What a fantastic morning we had today as we welcomed families, friends, and community members to our Education Week Open Morning!

The school was buzzing with excitement as visitors explored classrooms, chatted with staff, and witnessed the incredible learning taking place across every year level and in our specialist classes. From engaging literacy and numeracy activities to creative arts displays, our students proudly shared their work and their love of learning.

Thank you to everyone who joined us—it was a joy to open our doors and celebrate the vibrant, inclusive, and dynamic environment that makes Heidelberg PS so special.

We are proud of our school community and grateful for your continued support.

Thank you to teachers, staff and students for showcasing our school so well and welcoming our visitors so warmly.

A special thank you to our school captains, Alex, Ava, Lachie and Ruby, who did an outstanding job leading tours for prospective families. Their confidence, knowledge, and enthusiasm were a true reflection of the leadership and school spirit we value so highly.

Learn To Swim Community Award

We thank the Learn To Swim School for their desire to and partner partner with us by creating opportunities to give back to our HPS community. They have created a special award which will be presented at assembly each term to a student participating in the school swimming lessons. The recipient chosen will be someone who embodies the values and characteristics the Learn To Swim School stands for – determination, perseverance, a positive attitude, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning and improving in the water.

Along with a certificate presented at assembly, the recipient will get one weeks intensive lessons, to be taken as part of Learn To Swim's holiday program.

We were thrilled for James from Learn To Swim to announce that Hugh E, Year 6, was honoured with the very first Learn to Swim Community Award. Congratulations, Hugh! Your hard work and attitude have truly made a splash!

Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)

The AtoSS is a voluntary student survey offered by the Department of Education every year to students in Years 4 to 12, to help schools and the department understand students' experiences of school. The survey asks children about their thoughts and feelings about their school, their learning, relationships with other students, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. ORIMA Research Pty Ltd has been contracted by the department to manage the collection of the online survey and will provide support to schools. This year, the survey will be conducted at HPS between 26th May and 6th June.

Further information was sent to families with students in Year 4-6 via Compass, including details on opting out. Information regarding AtoSS is available in a variety of language translations so if required, please let me know.
