Stage 2

A message from Stage 2

As we approach the end of the term, Stage 2 would like to thank you for your continued support in helping your child on their learning journey. We have enjoyed celebrating student achievements both socially and academically this semester. The Stage 2 team truly appreciate your partnership! Wishing you a safe, warm, and enjoyable break.

English

During our Stage 2 English unit on Ned Kelly, we are engaging in a variety of activities. We are reading different texts about Ned Kelly, including fictional stories and historical accounts, which helps deepen our understanding of his character and the context of his life. In our writing sessions, we are creating our own informative pieces about Ned Kelly, focusing on structuring our writing effectively, using descriptive language, and incorporating factual information. Through discussions, we practice our speaking and listening skills by sharing our thoughts, asking questions, and responding to each other about the themes and events related to his life. We are supported in developing critical thinking skills as we analyse various perspectives on Ned Kelly’s actions, exploring the concepts of heroism and criminality. We are expanding our vocabulary knowledge by learning and using specific terms related to the topic.

Mathematics

In our Stage 2 mathematics lessons, we are learning to analyse information and present it clearly. We are focusing on collecting data and learning how to record it accurately using tally marks. We are also working on organising this data into charts. Recently, some of us had the opportunity to present the data we collected using Song Maker. This fabulous resource allows us to be creative in our presentations. You can explore the website through this link: Song Maker.

In our upcoming lessons on chance, students will have opportunities to identify and describe events as likely, unlikely, certain, or impossible. This unit encourages critical thinking and a foundational understanding of probability in everyday contexts.

Stage Sport

As we head into Term 3 and the colder weather, students will be heading indoors to learn different styles of dance during our sport time. The focus will be on physical activity, movement skills and motivation.
