Fortnight reflections

It’s been another busy and rewarding fortnight at our school, full of meaningful learning, leadership, and community connection.

Statewide Principal Conference

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Statewide Principal Conference in Melbourne. It was an inspiring two days, with a range of thought-provoking speakers. A standout was North Melbourne President, Sonja Hood, who shared a powerful message on resilience in leadership and the importance of staying positive through challenges—an important reminder for all of us.

Big Freeze 2025

What an incredible atmosphere we had last Friday for our Big Freeze event! A huge thank you to the brave staff who took the icy plunge and to our school leaders for doing a fantastic job of compering the event. A very special thanks to Mr. James for once again coordinating this much-loved tradition. Events like this truly showcase our community spirit.

Junior School Council – Moriac Kinder Visit

Thank you to Mr. M and Chelsea for taking our Junior School Council students to Moriac Kindergarten. This visit was part of our ongoing community engagement initiatives, giving our students the chance to demonstrate leadership and connect with the wider community. A wonderful experience for all involved.

Update on suspension and expulsion

Our school is committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all students and staff. You may be aware of recent changes announced to suspension and expulsion powers that will be available to Victorian principals from day one of Term 3, (Monday 21 July 2025).

We know that students’ behaviour outside of school, particularly online, can sometimes impact the safety of students and staff at school.

In exceptional circumstances, principals of Victorian government schools will be able suspend or expel students for behaviour that occurs outside of school grounds and/or hours including online, if it poses a significant danger to the safety and wellbeing of students or staff.

These powers apply only to serious incidents where there is a clear and close connection to the school and the behaviour of a student outside of school unreasonably impacts the safety and wellbeing of students or staff at school, and their ability to learn or work. Please note:

· They do not apply to behaviours unrelated to the school or school community.

· They only apply to behaviour which occurs from Monday 21 July 2025 onwards.

Suspension and expulsion will remain measures of last resort – our primary approach continues to focus on proactive and positive behaviour support, including working with you to teach students the behaviours we expect of them, in school and in life.

Thank you for your continued support as we work in partnership to educate and support our young people.

Save the dates;

  • Pupil Free Day Thursday, August 7th (Week 3, Term 3)
  • Semester reports will be released in Week 10 this term
  • Student Support Group meetings for those families concerned will be held in Week 11 this term (stay tuned for more details on Compass regarding this)
  • Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held in Week 3 of Term 3, on Monday 4th, Tuesday 5th, and Wednesday 6th August. (2/3W is an exception-see below).

Please note: Interviews for 2/3W will take place in Week 11 of Term 2, as Miss Willis will be away for all of Term 3. Bookings for these will open in Week 9.
