Hands on Learning & Casey Fields Primary School
This term, our incredible Hands on Learning team took their talents beyond the yard in a special collaboration with Casey Fields Primary School. Together, students from both schools worked on a creative STEM-based project: designing and building a series of mini golf holes for the primary school's playground.
The project combined problem-solving, teamwork, and practical building skills — and the results were fantastic! It was inspiring to see our students take on leadership roles, share their skills, and work side-by-side with the younger students to bring the mini golf course to life.
This partnership was a brilliant example of hands-on learning in action, and we’re proud of the effort, creativity, and care shown by everyone involved. A big thank you to Catch, Mick and the students in Hands on Learning for their efforts and support as well as a thank you to Casey Fields Primary School for the opportunity — we look forward to more great collaborations in the future!
Hands on Learning & Wilandra Rise Primary School
This term, we also welcomed a group of Grade 6 students from Wilandra Rise Primary School for a special day with our Hands on Learning team.
The visit was all about connection, creativity, and collaboration. Together, students from both schools rolled up their sleeves to build handmade items, share stories, and enjoy a delicious lunch they prepared as a team. It was a fantastic opportunity for the Grade 6s to experience secondary school life in a supportive, hands-on environment, guided by our wonderful HOL students. We look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships with our local primary schools and creating more shared learning moments like this one.
A Shakespeare Experience for Grade 5 Visitors
In Week 8, our talented Year 7 Drama students brought Shakespeare to life with a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for visiting Grade 5 students from Cranbourne East Primary School. The performance was the result of weeks of rehearsal, creativity, and teamwork, and our students rose to the occasion with confidence. A huge thank you goes to Ms Dimitriou, Ms Jemmeson, Mr Hunt, and Ms Foster-Muir for their dedication in preparing the students and bringing this project to life. Opportunities like this help build confidence, performance skills, and a love for the arts — and we can’t wait to see where our young performers go next!
We have had fantastic momentum in the Alumni space this Term, hosting 4 sessions across our Career's Spotlight event, a Legal Studies session and our Career's Fair. We have invited 12 Alumni (past students) back to share their stories, experience and expertise with current students. We have received incredible feedback from Teachers, students and Alumni, who are all enjoying these sessions and reconnecting with their school community.
Looking forward to thriving in Term 3. If you are an Alum / know any Alumni who may be interested in participating in the Alumni Community, please contact Riannah (Alumni Program Coordinator) at: alumni@cesc.vic.edu.au
Martial Arts Therapy Programme
MATP is an 8 week programme that we facilitate for Year 8 & 9 students who need more engagement. The martial arts programme is a very interactive and physical movement-based programme facilitated by professional martial arts trainers who have studied and travelled the world learning and refining the art practice.
This physical based programme has been highly successful in engaging a demographic of students who find this as a good outlet. The students learn an array of martial arts techniques, including physical strength conditioning, emotional regulation, harnessing and healthily expressing anger and other emotions, skills being a leader, and valuable self-defence techniques.
Each week students learn a new technique and something about the depth of the art form of martial arts.
I’ve seen many students develop mass amounts of confidence and skill sets that they can apply in their lives and at school, especially for students who find it hard to express their emotions in a healthy way.
Connect 4 Success Year 7 and 8
C4S is a semester long programme that’s facilitated by Eyerusalem (Youth worker/ C4S teacher).
C4S is a specialised programme and unit of learning for students who are either disengaged or struggling socially. In C4S the core of the programme is about building confidence and enhancing students’ skills/ things they are passionate about and developing their social and emotional skills through a range of different engaging learning modules and interactive team building activities.
In C4S there is an importance around nourishing students to speak up and use their voice and vocalise their opinions on the different learning modules for them.
Through the two terms of C4S each class has built stronger connections with each other and that has been resembled in how they collaborate and work with one another.
It’s been a privilege watching how different students have gained more confidence and expressed themselves more in class and outside of class when I see them interacting with their peers.
Teaching the Year 7-8 C4S has allowed me to build a better rapport with students which has allowed me to understand and support them better.
Each class ended with a celebration day and part of their gratitude unit hand made gratitude cards and handmade/delivered pancakes to their teachers that have made the most positive impact on them.
