Student Voice

Mr. Thornton, Ms Sculley and 2025 School Captains

School Captain Address

Term 2 has been a whirlwind of opportunities, celebration, and leadership, and we're so proud to share some highlights from the past few weeks! Our Harmony Day celebrations were a powerful reminder of the rich diversity that makes our school community so special. From vibrant cultural performances and food stalls to our student-led assemblies, the day was filled with pride, inclusivity, and respect. A huge thank you to everyone who participated-you helped create an atmosphere of unity that truly reflected the day's message: Everyone Belongs.

We were incredibly honoured to welcome the Premier of Victoria, Jacinta Allan, and the Member for Cranbourne, Pauline Richards, to our school. As your school captains, we had the privilege of giving them a guided tour of our facilities and sharing the values, programs, and student achievements that make our school unique. It was an amazing experience to speak directly with our state leaders about the importance of youth voices and education.

Another highlight this term was the Casey Youth Summit, an inspiring and action-driven event led by none other than Cranbourne East Secondary College students! The summit brought together student leaders from across the City of Casey to discuss the issues that matter most to us; from mental health to sustainability and equity. We're so proud of the initiative and leadership shown by our peers, and we look forward to seeing the ideas shared at the summit take shape across our wider community.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and spirit. We can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds.

Warm regards,

Your School Captains

Harsha, Simon, Rupali & Jonathon

Harmony Celebrations

On the 26th and 27th of May we held our annual harmony celebrations which aims to celebrate our diverse school community and promote a sense of belonging and connectedness.

On the 26th of May we started our celebrations with a welcome to country and traditional smoking ceremony at recess followed by our Year 12 VCE-VM students running activities that represent different cultures.

On the 27th of May, our day was jam packed with colour, music and friendship as we dressed up in cultural wear, watched performances of brave students in our assemblies and lunchtimes and ate food from the food trucks. The school also hosted it's first afternoon event where a range of students stayed back to perform for members of the community that purchased tickets. The feedback from the events was overwhelmingly positive and students, staff and community members enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Thank you to everyone that helped support and participated in this wonderful event.

Student Voice and Agency

To further reflect on the success of Harmony Day celebrations, our School Captains and Vice-Captains made a significant contribution to the inaugural after-school event. This included working with the PCO, College Leadership, and other student leaders to align all the varied requirements of this event.

This built on the work of previous student leaders, including our 2024 School Captains (Sanjay and Layla), demonstrating the lasting influence of impactful leaders. Leadership is often about what you leave behind and hand on to your successors.

In recent years, the SRC have attended various workshops and held meetings to discuss meaningful, tangible, and accessible ways to improve the student experience at our school. This work has been informed by the annual Student Experience Survey, with each group diving into one of the following areas: belonging, relevance, safety, and success.

Last year, the SRC presented their interim work to teachers, with these presentations being very well received. Over the coming term, the SRC will further refine their ideas before presenting staff with a proposed initiative that will drive improvements in each focus area. The intention is that each initiative can be easily implemented and drive timely improvements.

The SRC looks forward to providing further outcomes regarding the progress of this project.
