Boys/Mixed Soccer
What an amazing day out for our mixed/boys soccer team! The day started in an arm wrestle against Mount Waverley 0-0. Meanwhile our biggest challengers, Highvale went on to beat Glen Waverley 2-0. Our next game was against Highvale and while we felt in control, it ended in another 0-0 stalemate. Needing a draw or Mount Waverley win to stay in the race, we cheered from the sidelines- luckily for us Mount Waverley was able to fight back against their Highvale opponents, the closing score 1-1.
Going into the final match, our Vermont team had to win against Glen Waverley by a differential of three to come away victorious. We had been strong all day in defence- so this was the time to attack. A bit of a mountain to climb, but our side was determined and focused. Sherlock H gave us hope in the first half kicking Vermont’s first goal of the day. However, as the match grew closer and closer to the end, our chances were dwindling. With less than five minutes remaining Glen Waverley took a shot on goal, and our goal keep, Craig C, flew metres off the ground for a miracle save, rebounding the ball for a quick transition which led Radin M to clinch a second score. In the final minutes of the game we needed one more score, a long kick into our forward half landed at the feet of Christiano M who weaved around Glen Waverley’s defence slotting it into the net with just seconds remaining! A 3-0 result won the round, and it was a happy bus trip home.
It was an exciting day to be a part of. Thank you to the parents who came down to support, as well as our amazing and inspirational coaches Tissa and Ansel. Most of all a big thank you to the side- you played with heart and soul and kept your heads in challenging moments. Congratulations.
Senior
Congratulations to Seniors Girls Football Team for an outstanding performance in their recent round robin competition at Koonung Reserve - The home of the Nunawading Lions.
Despite being short on numbers, the team were able to string together 3 convincing wins, each with margins of over 60 points! After some half-time feedback regarding the lack of goal celebrations from guest coach and current Hawthorn AFLW player Kaitlyn Ashmore the team responded and delivered. The team comradery and celebrations were an absolute stand out in addition to the running commentary from the umpires throughout the day. Special mention to Indigo (Year 10) and Remi (Year 9) for jumping in to ensure we had enough numbers to field a team and have the luxury of bench rotations.
Well done to all for a great day of footy and thank you to the Nunawading Lions Football Club for supplying the facilities for the day. The team will now prepare for the EMR Finals at Elgar Park on the 29th of July. Go Vermont!
Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 Girls Football Team for an outstanding performance in their recent round robin competition at Heatherdale Reserve- The home of the Heathmont Jets. Despite the cold, drizzly conditions, the team showed great determination, skill, and teamwork to win all three of their matches.

Across the day, the team not only played impressive football but also represented Vermont with pride, maintaining strong sportsmanship even in the face of some challenging behaviour from opponents.
A fantastic effort from everyone involved. Special mention to our goal kickers: Agnes, Ella, Makenzie, Izzy, Arya, Chantelle, Anisha, Lily Cleary, Rachael, Zara, and Khloe. A huge shout out to Lily C, who scored her first goal with her first ever kick in an AFL game—an unforgettable moment!
Well done to the whole team for a great day of footy and to the Heathmont Jets for supplying the facilities for the day. Mrs Mitchell.
Senior Boys
The Senior Boys A and B Netball teams have done the school proud, emerging undefeated in a thrilling series of matches that kept their coaches on the edge of their seats. With grit, teamwork, and a never-give-up attitude, the teams won every game — but not without a challenge for the A’s whilst the B’s dominated every aspect.
From the first whistle, it was clear that the competition would be fierce. Each opponent brought energy and skill, pushing our boys to dig deep and work together. Games were close, often coming down to the final minutes in the A section. It was in these high-pressure moments that the team’s resilience shone through.
Quick passes, sharp shooting, and solid defence defined their gameplay. Standout performances came from across the court, with every player stepping up when it mattered most. Whether it was a clutch intercept, a perfectly timed goal, or strategic play under pressure, the boys proved they had what it takes.
The undefeated run is a testament not just to the team's ability, but to their sportsmanship and commitment to training. Congratulations to the teams for their incredible performances — you've set a brilliant example of determination, teamwork, respect and excellence.
Intermediate
The Intermediate Boys Netball team represented the school with pride and determination, winning all three of their matches in an impressive display of teamwork and skill. Each game showcased their strong communication, smart plays, and relentless energy on court. Coach Caitlin (Year 12, school captain) was incredibly proud of the boys’ efforts, supporting and encouraging them throughout the day. Well done everyone.
Year 8 Boys Football
A great day out at Heatherdale reserve for our Year 8 Boys Football, braving the wet and cold conditions to bring home two wins from two games.
Started the day with a hard-fought match against Highvale, with Patrick B, Christian E, Henry D and Will C leading the way. In a game that ebbed and flowed, Highvale played some quality football, and we were fortunate to head into three-quarter time with a narrow lead. But Vermont finished strong, and three final quarter goals from Archie P helped us take home a 24-point win.
Final score: VSC 8.6 54 def HSC 4.6 30
Our second match was against Mount Waverley, and they caught us off guard early, with the ball living in our backline for the first five minutes of the game, but some staunch defensive efforts from the likes of Joel B, Michael Y and Ethan S made sure we only conceded one goal. It was one-way traffic after that, with our boys cruising through to a comfortable win, with the likes of Taha C, Jackson M and Levon E finding plenty of the footy. The most pleasing aspect of the win was the team-first attitude shown, as well as the involvement of a few boys playing their first ever games of football, such as Jai K and Nikunj C, who even got their names on the scoresheet.
Final score: VSC 13.11 89 def MWSC 1.1 7
Special thanks to Aiyden and Lewis, our Year 9 assistant coaches. Overall, a very successful day for Vermont. Time to back it up on Tuesday the 17th of June at the EMR Finals. Well done boys!
What a day for footy, especially when the rain and hail thundered down. Didn’t stop the Vermont warriors, however. A comfortable two wins for the day.
