What's on in 5/6
Reconciliation Week
Our Grade 5/6 students enthusiastically embraced Reconciliation Week 2024, themed "Now More Than Ever." A highlight was the incursion by Djirri Djirri, the only Wurundjeri female dance group and the Traditional Custodians of Narrm (Melbourne) and surrounds. Students had the unique opportunity to learn about Wurundjeri customs, traditions, and culture, deepening their understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture. Through dance and the Woiwurrung language, they gained invaluable insights into the rich history and traditions of the First Nations people, fostering unity and respect.
Buddies
Grade 5 students enjoyed quality time with their Seedlings and Warekila Kinder buddies, engaging in free play outdoors and strengthening their bonds through fun and active games. Meanwhile, the Grade 6 students teamed up with their Foundation buddies to learn about Indigenous cultures. They learnt about Aboriginal tools and explored connections by cutting out paper hands to create the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Australian flags. This collaborative effort fostered a shared appreciation for the rich heritage and spirit of reconciliation.
