What's on in Foundation

Garden

This term our Foundation students have been exploring the concept of sustainability. We have been fortunate to head to the garden fortnightly with Ashley to grow our garden knowledge. The chooks are definitely a favourite! We have learned interesting facts, how to pat them and even went on an egg hunt in the coup. Worms, worms, worms! We loved finding out about the magic of worm farms and all of the goodness they bring to the soil in the garden. Holding the wriggly worms in our hands gave us an up close look at these important garden residents!

Grade 6 Buddies

Our Foundation students always  love the opportunity  to work with their Grade 6 Buddies. During reconciliation week, we got ‘hands on’ and collaborated to create the three flags of Australia with just our hand prints! Decorating the intricate designs on boomerangs added a little extra to our flag display. Our buddy system at Whitehorse Primary is an integral part of building community, student leadership and connectedness amongst our students!

Djirri Djirri Dance Incursion

Our Foundation students loved learning about some traditions and dances from First Nations performers  Keira and Mikayla. The girls delighted the students, teaching them movements that represented  Australian animals and  showed  their traditional and special possum fur belts. They also explained the meaning of their traditional face paint and wood necklaces. The students eagerly watched them perform some dances, including a dance based on a traditional smoking ceremony.  We are so proud of how well our students engaged with and participated in the dance experience!
