Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 11, Term 2

The last Wonga Weekly for Semester 1! Wishing you all a happy and safe winter holiday!

📚 LITERACY

In Literacy, we will be revisiting parts of speech, as they appear in texts. We will continue considering word choice and voice; using strong verbs and adjectives to help the reader connect to an idea.

In Phonics, we will continue focusing on word endings (suffixes) and understanding, for example, how adding an 'ing' or an 'ed' to a base word can change it.

What you can do at home

These holidays provide a great opportunity for everyone to log into the  'Premiers Reading Challenge' website. Don't forget to record the books that your child reads.

Exploring the Reading Eggs website over the holidays is also another great thing to do with some spare time.

🎲 NUMERACY

This week we will revisit many of the maths concepts that we have introduced this semester; counting patterns, place value, addition and subtraction. We will play games and solve problems, providing opportunities to apply number skills that have been explored.

What you can do at home:

Encourage your child to explore Maths Seeds (Gr 1) and Mathletics (Gr2) these holidays, to help them practice simple mathematical concepts. Opportunities to practice fluency in numeracy will build skills that your child will use in the future.

You can find passwords for the above-mentioned programs inside the front cover  of your child's Reading Log.

🌄 CBL - Country

This week students will carry out the challenge, 'Share how we respect country'.

Not only will students share their knowledge with their peers, but they will also have an opportunity to showcase their learning at our open afternoon on Thursday.

'Caring for country...includes being respectful, listening and seeking to understand.'

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Thank you to those parents who have offered to volunteer in our 'Parent Helpers' program. After working through a few logistics, we are now hoping to start the program in Term Three. A notice will be sent home this week, asking you to outline your availability

Just a reminder, if you are hoping to participate in our 'Parent Helpers' program, you are required to have attended our Parent Helpers Information session and ensure that you have completed the Child Safe training too.

Please note the Term Three dates for these sessions-

Parent Helpers Information Session - Thursday 18th August (4pm start to be held online)

Child Safe training - Thursday 1st August and Monday 2nd September (online)

You will find the links for these session on the Sentral Parent calendar.

It is important to let your child’s classroom teacher know of any problems/concerns that your child may share with you about their time at school. Please alert the school (classroom teacher) about the problem as soon as possible, allowing school staff to work through it, rather than trying to solve it yourself or with other parents.
